Once Again Flowers Bring Us a Stunning Springtime!

In response to the April 2023 DEP Photography prompt and weekly prompt 27/52

Daffodils, Almond Bush, Tulips, and Japanese Maple. All images by the author.

In the musical, Camelot, Julie Andrews sings, “Tra la! It’s here! That lusty time of year!” And while it’s not yet May, the color bursting forth, the mad springtime array, has me singing this song while dancing around the house. (The dogs think I’ve lost my mind.) Nothing compares to Spring’s early bloomers!

Click on the song and listen while you read. :)

While there is much spring cleanup to be done in the garden, watching my perennials break through the ground and peep through the mulching leaves always brings a sense of wonder.

Year after year bright yellow daffodils show themselves first, quickly followed by the tulips, and my delightful little almond bush. The Japanese Maple in the front bed begins to fill out with its dark burgundy leaves just as my pink tulips open.

While all this is going on, my backyard, which is primarily violets, looks like a sea of lavender and white. It undulates!

Next are the coral bells with their delicate pink blooms, then the irises follow with a showy display of the sweetest yellow. By then, everything has filled out and the green, everywhere the eye looks, is brilliant!

Iris images taken by the author last year.

I never planted irises. They were my mother’s favorite flowers and were prolific in her garden on the east side of the house in which I grew up. Hers were traditional purple irises with yellow centers. They smelled divine!

Mom died a couple of years before I moved from Illinois to Kansas never having a chance to see my new home. She would tell everyone that her two girls weren’t just daughters, they were her dearest friends.

I believe my mom planted the yellow irises in my back garden. It sure wasn’t me. Talk about prolific! I’ve now got two beds of yellow iris … the exact color that represents friendship!

Spring doesn’t show up without bringing memories of Mom.

Thanks for the prompt, Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles! I definitely collected a few smiles this spring!

And a little inspiration from Lisa Precious / Smiley Blue. I love how the first line drew me in … “When we need to think, we intuitively look upward for inspiration; we naturally align toward sunlight.”

And as always, all of the authors at Dancing Elephants Press!
