On Writing Online [Seriously] For The Past 3 Years…

From wanting to be a consultant to becoming a writerpreneur.

I started writing online around this time 3 years ago. For the past 2 years, it’s been my full-time job (and funds all the travels that you see + pays me way better than a corporation would have at this age).

The photo you see is of me in university, aged 21. My dream was:

  1. Be a consultant
  2. Have a job that pays you to travel (hence consultant)

I started writing online *seriously* 3 years ago.

I’ve been writing online since I was 18 (I’m 27 right now).

I’ve been writing since I was 7.

Stating the above three to tell you that what may look like ‘quick’ growth to you is a result of carving my skill for years.

I started it because too much time to myself during the pandemic made me realise:

  • I refuse to believe I have to wait for a decade to earn what I want to
  • My salary would never be able to fund my love for travelling
  • Working 8 hours a day feels like all I’m born to do is… work

And on the internet, I saw people doing what they love and living well.

So I gave it a try.

Took the first step, by writing.

Side hustled for 9 months to make money writing and test if it actually works or is an internet facade. Because your girl has bills to pay and couldn’t afford to quit without savings or alternate source(s) of income.

Today, I’m working under 4 hours a day and am not even freelancing. I’m teaching, writing for myself, and running a business.

I don’t know how the coming months or years will be.

But exactly 3 years ago, I could’ve never imagined that life would change *this* much, all by taking the first step.

So whoever needs to hear this — give it a shot, whatever it is that you’re thinking of. At least for a year, show up every day. And it might just change your life.

PS: I am still hopeful to get paid to travel someday. Until then, I’ll just try my best to make enough that supports my love for exploring the world.
