On the Road to Becoming Happier
Does your joy matter less than your career?

We often forget to enjoy life.
Always striving for more, more, more.
- A 100 more followers
- Another zero in the salary
- Another promotion at the corporate
Which is great. We should try to do better. Be better.
But stop and see the view once in a while?
Constantly striving for something is not wrong. It gives our days focus and purpose. I often feel my life has no direction if I have nothing to work towards. Undisciplined and lazy me is never happy.
But being overstressed all the time and having no time to just put your feet up and relax is also not ideal.
There needs to be a balance, right?
I’m picking up my first job this month. I have a few places I’m interviewing at and one option in the bag. I’m pretty sure which one I’ll end up choosing.
But there was so much stress that went into this decision.
Which is the perfect job?
Until I changed my perspective and looked at what truly mattered to me instead of all the advice I was suddenly getting.
- I don’t want to work for someone else for the rest of my life.
- I want to be able to work hard at this Medium thing no matter which job I choose.
Where would I thrive? Which position and company would allow me to learn important skills while also giving me time to work on my side hustle?
And the answer was pretty obvious.
It helped to adopt a long-term perspective.
This got me thinking- why don’t we live our personal lives this way too?
Anchored by what truly matters to us.
We often let the days go by. Thump by thump by thump. Another week followed by another yet uneventful weekend.
But what if we consciously thought about what makes us happy and incorporated it into our lives?
Would every day not be so much better?
What makes you happy?
For me, it’s-
- Writing
- Good books
- Dinner dates
- Meeting friends
- Cute coffee shops
- Playing with my dog
- Days out in the wintery sun
So, go on, and make your list. Write down your small joys.
Think of what brings a smile to that beautiful face.
Take care of you, if you don’t, who will?
We put so much thought into our careers, and other ‘important’ things, why not put as much thought into taking care of yourself and making sure you’re enjoying this life thing?
With love,
K
