JANUARY 2024 PAPER POETRY
On Her Birthday
Reflections on a birthday night

And there she was, Contemplating life, With one more year, In her birthday night.
And there she was, Thinking of her triumphs, Adventures, events, And places she went.
And there she was, Looking at the future, So bright and exciting, Full of promise and charm.
And there she was, Looking at her life, How far she has come, So much more to undergo.
With anticipation, She looks around For the people with whom She will continue her path.

Today is my wife’s birthday, and I wrote this poem for her.
The poem serves as an invitation to reflect on our valuable moments as we grow older. Memories are the fabrics of our life. Emotions can be re-lived. People we have missed can be brought to life.
All it takes is a few moments to slow down our busy lives, honour the time, space and people that have played an unforgettable role in our journey.
Thank you Paper Poetry for the prompt, which happened to be so timely!
