On Bravery of Ukrainian Soldiers
Unlike Russians, they have a strong purpose to fight in the war
Since Russia invaded Ukraine, the whole world has turned upside down. And like everyone, I’m consumed with this crisis. I can’t help but think about Ukraine and the future of our world.
Just when you think there’s peace, a tragedy strikes — in this case, it came at the worst time — right after the pandemic, which is still not over.
I still can’t believe this is all happening. The war feels like waking up from a nightmare. And every time I turn on the news to get the latest update on the crisis, I’m overwhelmed with a wide range of emotions.
From anger, fury, sadness, and of course… hope. The reality that we live in such an unstable and unpredictable world hits me further.
I can’t close my eyes and be at peace when I know innocent civilians are getting bombed, people are dying, and buildings destroyed. No matter how hard I try to divert my attention, my thoughts shift back to Ukraine. And frankly, I can’t push myself to write about anything else right now, other than the crisis in Ukraine.
As the war escalates each day, I remain hopeful that Ukraine will emerge victoriously. I hope and pray that the spirit and courage of Ukrainians will help them win this war, even though the odds are not in their favor.
After all, they’re fighting for their country’s survival, and they’ve shown immense bravery since day one.
I know that the Russian military has many advantages and outnumber the Ukrainian military, but I don’t think Russian soldiers have as much resilience compared to Ukrainian soldiers.
While military prowess is crucial in achieving victory, I believe in the power of the human spirit. It’s the fighting spirit of Ukrainians that has helped them stay together and fight with incredible stamina.
I think that no matter how many guns and tanks you have, you still need the spirit and courage to fight the war.
Ukrainians have already shown they will not back away and fight to the end to regain their freedom. They’ve been fighting and defending their country with immense courage.
Add to that, the global financial and humanitarian support they’ve received from the whole world has helped them stay strong.
And the more Ukrainians put up their stiff resistance, the less motivated Russian soldiers will be to continue the war.
Make no mistake, many Russian soldiers were confused about why they were fighting in this war from the beginning. Many didn’t even want to stay and fight.
Skill and power don’t mean you have the courage and resilience to win the war. Not to mention, to achieve victory in any war, you need to have a strong purpose, which many Russian soldiers don’t have.
When you’re clueless about your purpose, your performance suffers. You no longer wish to fight hard to achieve your victory. Pulling yourself out of war may be the first thing on your mind.
There is a huge difference in how much someone is willing to show up and fight for their country versus someone fighting because they were blindly following someone else’s orders.
Having a purpose matters a lot. A strong purpose can make a difference in who will ultimately win the war, no matter what military advantages they had over their opponent.
And it’s without a doubt that Ukrainians are the ones who are fighting this war with a big purpose — to regain their freedom and protect their country. Their purpose fuels their physical prowess. They have a huge reason to be brave and stand up to their enemy.
Stiff resistance of Ukrainian soldiers plus Russians being clueless about their purpose in the war means they’ll have less motivation or willingness to keep fighting.
My two cents: Strength and power are not enough to win the war. You also need a strong purpose.
