On Borrowed Stardust

Embracing Impermanence

Growing up in 3WC can be an adventurous journey, nurturing creativity and compelling us to expand our imagination despite limited resources. Enduring poverty toughens us, cultivating resilience as we adapt to harsh conditions and develop immunity through exposure to various bacteria. As a child, I played with stones, sticks, clay, and dirt, bathing in the rain and cooking our meals over wood fires, completely exposed to the elements. These experiences strengthened our immune systems over the years.

Transitioning to the West reveals stark contrasts, where life appears easier, largely owing to accessible government programs. In 3WC, limited options and poverty often tempt leaders toward corruption. Once temptation takes hold, it gradually corrupts the soul, leading to moral decay impacting one’s ethical compass and sense of right from wrong. What impact do we choose to imprint on this world and those who remember us once our transient life is over?

Recognizing that we’re crafted from borrowed stardust, realizing our mortality serves as a compass, guiding us toward life’s true significance. It illuminates what truly matters, infuses life with profound meaning, and amplifies our appreciation for the precious time we have on this plane.

The search for meaning, craving for beauty, what makes our transient lives worth living are existential queries most of us wonder about. Because in the end, despite our earthly efforts, whether we like it or not, we will return to the stardust we were made from, to the same cosmic elements that created us. So while we are here, seek something to live for. That which gives fulfillment and contribution toward the betterment of our planet and the well-being of its inhabitants.

Remembering my encounter with sacred plant medicine was a profound and transformative experience. It was as if a dormant aspect of my being suddenly awakened, revealing a reservoir of courage that had lain dormant within me for an extended period. This awakening wasn’t solely about newfound bravery; it brought with it an acute awareness of impermanence — a profound realization that nothing in life is permanent or static. This awareness of impermanence, once concealed or overlooked, now became a guiding light, reshaping my perspective on existence and infusing each moment with a deeper appreciation for life’s transient beauty. It became a catalyst for a renewed sense of purpose, this urge to embrace each passing moment with gratitude and mindfulness.

And so it’s true, when we arrive at the realization that we are not afraid of dying, we begin to feel comfortable with living.

Grateful for the gift of life.
