Summary

Abstract

The article "Slow Down, When Did You Last Take Time Out Just for You?" discusses the necessity of aligning with one's inner flow for well-being, especially in the face of global changes. The text underscores the concept that every action, thought, and emotion either replenishes or depletes our energy, advocating for a mindful approach to energy expenditure. It encourages readers to prioritize self-care and nourishment, arguing that this is not selfish but essential for maintaining the ability to care for others. The article concludes by prompting readers to ask themselves hard questions about what truly matters and to trust their intuition in navigating life's chaos and changes.

Slow Down, When Did You Last Take Time Out Just for You?

How to reconnect to your flow with life and reset during the ups and downs of change.

If you are not doing what you know, in your heart, you want to do, you are not going with the f-l-o-w. You are going against the f-l-o-w.

Your reactions, emotions, desires and talents are all part of the flow of life.

Ignoring them is passive resistance… let yourself go. Vironika Tugaleva

At the start of 2020, the world entered the fertile ground for unprecedented, monumental change — with everyone in it.

With plenty of time to think, we were simultaneously challenged, on a global scale, to re-evaluate the lifestyles we’d been accustomed to.

Some claim they felt this change coming — that in need of a collective balance and in need of healing, the world put itself on hold so that we as humanity could revisit how we’re living.

One of the messages resounding for many of us regards our well-being. It is time to s-l-o-w down. Reconnect with self.

During the inevitable ups and downs during times of change, take a pause. This is how to reconnect to your flow with life.

everything in life takes energy

Your energy is currency. Spend it well. Invest it wisely. — Gavin Strange

We all have a social and moral responsibility to look at what we, individually, do on a day-to-day basis. Every lifestyle choice we make will replenish or deplete our resources and quality of life.

Every thought, every action we take — replenishes or depletes us.

We can appreciate and understand that reality after being physically active at the gym or running errands.

But, what we don’t often lend enough appreciation to is that our thoughts and feelings consume our energy. The most dangerous thing is when we do not give that fact enough credit.

Each time we become angry with another person, take on their burden as our own or carry an emotional weight that is not ours to carry, we are draining our energy.

The importance of protecting our energy is magnified as many of us struggle with a work-life balance act. Juggling family responsibilities with the boss’s demands. Remaining at a soul-sucking job in fear of losing the job. Saying “yes” when we wished we had said no… all the 24/7 pressures to keep up the pace.

It is no wonder we feel so unbelievably e-x-h-a-u-s-t-e-d!

Because at the end of the day, there is no more energy left to spend on ourselves.

nourish yourself

Laughter is to the soul, what rain is to the earth — G. Hopman

Imagine if, rather than giving your precious energy to frivolous things, day after day, you consciously lend your energy to that which is giving, nourishing and fulfilling.

By looking within, we reconnect to ourselves.

By practicing self-care, we are putting ourselves first. Does this feel “selfish”? In this context, to place our needs and priorities first, we prioritize and commit to taking care of ourselves first so that we can better care for others; not at the exclusion of others.

Consciously choosing to put our energy to the best possible use ensures there is more than enough, shored up, to give to others and ourselves, especially during times of upheaval.

By being mindful, we learn to feel, accept and let go of our emotions. It is the stuck energy that blocks everyday goodness from re-entering back into our lives. Ignoring, unconsciously holding on, resurfaces in physical or emotional ailments.

Without nourishing ourselves, even the most proficient energy keeper will bleed out.

The hard questions we haven’t had time to ask

It’s good to clear out the clutter — from our minds and our homes. As we begin settling, intentionally, with our internal selves, we can begin asking those hard questions we haven’t had time to ask.

We’ve been running on the collective hamster wheel for so long, often without intention and awareness.

What really matters?

What really offers fulfillment and validation to our hearts?

The chaos of life can drown every voice, including our own inner voice.

When we slow down and offer ourselves moments of silence, there is a chance to be heard.

Final Word

While the unknown often fills us with fear, it is something we must be actively aware of to reap the benefits. It starts by asking ourselves where we want to be.

Ask ourselves, does this feel right?

Listening to our gut feelings, and our inner compass — intuition has always been trying to route us. Has always been rooting for us. Has always remained true to us, by letting us know when something is right for us. And, when it is a definite, No, thanks.

By asking questions, we can choose the thoughts, habits and practices to take with us forward to creating a better life.

Be open.

Change offers growth. Let go of old thoughts to make space for the new. Take a leap of faith in yourself and trust to let yourself go.
