A RECLAMA FOR A MEDIUM REINSTITUTION OF A WRITER

The story Dr. Yildiz Mehmet wrote on behalf of Lanu Pitan needs to be broadcast across Medium in a fair and equitable manner beyond Illumination. It can happen to any of us.

I do not know Lanu as closely as Dr. Mehmet Yildiz does per the story he wrote about Lanu Pitan, “Why I Firmly Believe Lanu Pitan Is Not a Fraud But an Avid Reader and Valuable Community Member,” I can assert his seriousness and professionalism in his approach to get to know people.

Like Dr. Yildiz, I am a Professional and retired Engineer. I spent most of my career in Aerospace designing/testing, and in Space Programs like the Shuttle, Galileo (at JPL), and Space Station. All with exacting precision, which demands an innovative and ethical approach for good results; and, with computers of that era, which, compared to today’s iPhones, left a lot to be desired.

In my retirement, I worked for him (as an Editor) and with him (on guidelines to help our users) to grow and make Illumination live up to its name. We have an honest, professional relationship. Although I am no longer an active editor on his staff — life sometimes dictates direction — I am still writing and publishing in Medium/Illumination.

Within the 1,325 words he wrote in Lanu’s support, two paragraphs struck me as true coming from him:

“Lanu is a professional businesswoman. She is a chartered accountant and runs her own business in the UK. She wrote a book titled Wisdom in Management in 2011 before joining Medium.”

“I don’t think she needs to steal cents from a writing platform with fraudulent activity. She is also a highly ethical, spiritual, and religious person who always prays for other people with her golden heart.”

For the millions of words people must write in Medium daily there must be a crawler program using programmed criteria to make decisions about the legality of and translation to dollars on authors using it behind the paywall.

What I can say, based on Dr. Yildiz’s assertions, is that the program has a man-made hole in its logic that requires attention.

My purpose for writing is to urge you to reinstate Ms. Lanu Pitan’s account. Ethical professionals do not deserve banishment after years of paying Medium for the right to write.
