Since Olivia Isabel Rodrigo will be performing in Utah at the UCCU Center on the Utah Valley University campus in April 2022, I was interested in finding out more about her.

She is a young woman who was born in Murrieta, California, and raised in the neighboring city of Temecula. I have family members who live in Temecula. It is between Los Angeles and San Diego. Temecula and Murrieta are in southwestern Riverside County in Southern California. I have been to Temecula and Murrieta many times. Being Asian, I was also interested that she is part Asian with a Filipino American father.

She will be touring and performing in the near future in Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Orem, UT; Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; Milwaukee, WI; and in Vancouver, B.C. Canada.

Rodrigo has said that her paternal great-grandfather moved to the United States from the Philippines when he was a teenager. Her family continues to follow some Filipino traditions and enjoys Filipino cuisine.

She started taking vocal lessons in kindergarten and learned to play the piano. She also took acting lessons and continued singing lessons. She started acting in theater productions in elementary school and continued in middle school. She started to play the guitar at the age of twelve. She listened to her parents’ favorite music while growing up. It was alternative rock music.

After she secured a leading role on Bizaardvark, she moved to Los Angeles. She also had a lead role in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. She has had singles which have broken records and become best-selling songs.

When I asked my family members if they knew of Olivia Rodrigo, my son who lives in another part of the world responded. He said that he was too old to really know about her, but he had recently seen her on a commercial. Rodrigo was at the White House and was featured on a commercial to encourage people to get COVID vaccinations. My family members who live in Temecula had heard of her although they have not met her.

Olivia Rodrigo is a successful, young performer who is sharing her talents with the world.
