GiaB writing prompt #2–7: celebrations

There is a part of me that doesn’t like birthdays
A day dedicated all to myself to vanilla frosting and sugared wishes feels somewhat self-indulgent
And my introverted nature cringes at the idea of the potential to be sung at by strangers in a restaurant a slightly off-key rendition of “Happy Birthday” the soundtrack to yet another year
accompanied by flushed cheeks and an embarrassed smile plastered on my face
But if it is embarrassing, then it is also endearing a delightful absurdity to be loved like this
And another part of me basks in it not the attention, but in the warmth and the joy of life
and all of the little moments both magical and mundane that shape it
A big thank you to Victor Sarkin for the latest writing prompt on celebrations. I am fairly new to prompted writing, but I am quickly embracing the form as a way to challenge myself to step outside the comfort zone from that I usually write from. Tagging a few others that I follow who might like to join in on this lovely prompt, as their work always entertains and inspires: sylvia wilde, Holly Faupel, Thalia Dunn, Sydney J. Shipp , and Amanda Laughtland.
