You give me a good reason to pause Opalesque light feature All hailed by the night creature Illuminating my fine points and flaws Internal Nocturnal Secrets kept in my journal A wordsmith lacking a round of applause You give me a good reason to gaze Precious night diamond Set on a sky island I set sail to explore each lunar phase New, First, Full, and Last Future, present, to distant past Cycles, circles, my everlast Dancing in dreams, under stars, and your rays You give me a good reason to reflect Mistakes and convictions Retakes and addictions With your light source, I aim to project No more round-rewound On the Merry-go-round I step off the self-driven ride of the inept You give me a good reason to shine A nightly occurrence Meeting many an inference I mold ordinary into extraordinary per the sign Folklore, traditions Magical superstitions I tweak new renditions With my pen in my hand, I wave words into worlds that are mine

My poem responds to Sahil Patel’s third week of August poetry prompt: the moon. Like many, I am drawn to the moon’s beauty and mystery and find artistic inspiration simply by gazing up at her. The lunar phases have a magical appeal and bring me a sense of calm and connection to my inner being. As a spiritual symbol of feminine energy and cyclical change, I embrace the moon, often finding her in my dreams.

Thank you, Sahil, for continuing to provide poets with beautiful prompts. It’s been a while since I posted here and this prompt drew me in right away!
