Ode to Joy: Undying Love

The Story of Maggie Mae

Why is it always the holidays

The fucking holidays

Be it animal, human, or dog

Just put a stake through my heart instead

I’m not cavalier when I say this

I knew it was coming

What’s that beautiful quote

You use in your signature line Paroma Sen

It’s Dylan Thomas isn’t it?

So profound with his words

I’ve always loved that poem

Can’t aspire to that kind of greatness

Do not go gentle into that good night

Old age should burn and rave at the close of day

Rage, rage against the dying of light

Though wise men at their end know dark is right

Please go gentle into that good night

It will signify all in the world is right

You’ve given me a lifetime and a half of joy

Following me blindly everywhere I go

You came traipsing down the hall this morning

Not quite as quickly as days past

As I turned to go to my bedroom

I saw a trail of bright red blood following your footsteps

Lord above, please help me be calm

Stop the never-ending flow of tears

Wake up Maggie, I think I got somethin’ to say

Crooned a young, sexy, hip-swaggering Rod Stewart

A little gentler, but the same swagger

You stole my heart

And that’s what really hurts

Go gently my love, his namesake sang

Do not rage

It’s not your way

Let love and peace take you away.

As the world goes round and round

The pain is exquisite

Don’t hide under the covers, Janny

She deserves every moment of mourning

There is no price I wouldn’t gladly pay for M&M to stay

A young inspirational poet and a rock icon. Do they seem like an unlikely pair? If you hadn’t guessed, my Maggie Mae is Rod Stewart’s namesake! Loving, adoring, innocent, wanting nothing more than to share love and happiness. And, oh that swagger. Those eyes, her tail wagging, she had the audacity to believe anyone that crossed her path had come just to see her! My sweet Maggie Mae. If it’s your time, I’ll let you go! They say you’ll know when the time comes. I fear it’s around the corner. Give me strength, Dylan Thomas. Give me strength! And death shall have no dominion!

I was going to respond to a challenge by Stuart Englander’s #catchphrase challenge and then another from Tree Langdon about a Preface, I think. I took a side road. Two more days will tell me about Maggie Mae … it’s been a long, short road.

This is dedicated to so many that inspire me daily:

Dr Mehmet Yildiz Tree Langdon Joe Luca James G Brennan Dr. Preeti Singh Penofgold Liam Ireland Maryam Merchant Thewriteyard Dew Langrial Linda Aileen Miller Stuart Englanderand so many others. I love Poetry on Slack and so many of the channels added by Illumination. Thank you!
