Summary

A Medium writer is puzzled by the unexpected external views, particularly from Google and Bing, on a poem they published without SEO optimization.

Abstract

The author of an article on Medium shares their surprise over a personal poem receiving a significant number of external views, despite not employing SEO strategies or targeting a highly searchable topic. The views are predominantly from Android devices and search engines like Google, with one view even originating from Bing. The author expresses confusion about the discoverability of their poem on search engines and humor regarding the use of Bing. They are pleased with the attention the poem is receiving but remain mystified by the lack of a clear explanation for its visibility.

Opinions

  • The author is perplexed by the high number of external views on a poem that was not SEO-optimized.
  • They find it unusual that the poem is being found through Google searches, given its non-specific topic.
  • The author has attempted to search for their own poem on Google without success, adding to their confusion.
  • There is a humorous tone when mentioning the one view from Bing, implying a stereotype that Bing is not commonly used.
  • Despite the confusion, the author is content with the poem's reach and is open to sharing their work with a broader audience.

Odd Source of External Views I Found

Has this ever happened to you?

I am curious if this has happened to any of you, my fellow writers on Medium. Have you ever gotten a substantial number of external views? Most times if we see we have gained a lot of external views it is from “Android device (not Medium app)”, and that makes sense, I guess. If we do SEO we may expect a lot of views from Google. I have run into a slightly perplexing event with one of my stories.

I wrote a poem back on April 5th no big deal, but its views are strange. It has mostly external views. Now like I said, I totally expected and understand the Android device views. What I do not understand is the views coming in from Google. I didn’t do any SEO on this poem. It isn’t super specific of a topic that it would even be easy to find. I even tried searching for it myself with no luck. Yet, somehow 25 people have found it on google. One poor individual even stumbled on to my poem from Bing. This leaves me with two questions. How are people even finding my poem on a search engine? More importantly, are there really people who use Bing?

Anyways, I am confused and delighted. I do not mind external views. I am just happy to share my poems with people. I guess I am just completely clueless as to how this has happened.
