October Was By Far My Best Month
Despite otherwise feeling like crap
I do not really like writing meta-Medium pieces of any kind. I rarely do, opting instead for original content. Yet due to the lack of morale I have diagnosed lately and a remarkably strong last October day I decided to write yet another one.
In my header image you can see that I reached almost 400 views yesterday, while in October I broke past 7K views, with roughly half of them being reads. Peanuts for some, a lot for many, I appear to lie somewhere in the middle.
With the exception of two highly abnormal days in September when I had 400+ views Oct 31 was the day my words were most viewed. And most read:
Those two September days were ‘abnormal’ because this article was inexplicably flooded by external views from free/non members but I got barely any reads. It reached 600 views but its read ratio dropped to 9%, with a member reading time of barely an hour.
I thought Oct 31 would be similar on first glance, and thus I would close October with ~90% of my target (yeah, I mean join the ✨$100 club✨). I thought perhaps most extra reads were from non/free members.
I was wrong. This is the story they came from:
It is a naughty -though not explicitly erotic- story I published on Redemption on Oct 13. It had flatlined since Oct 16 and yet yesterday it picked up steam. And all of it was internal. Quite surprisingly, unlike other spikes, not a single reader came from Google:
So thank you Redemption’s Paul Mansfield and May More for the extra unexpected monies. They are most welcome and appreciated, particularly these days.
So where did I close October in terms of total earnings? Like I mentioned I expected to end up with 90% of my monthly target. I averaged $2.90 a day until Oct 30, so it was a safe bet I’d end up with ~$90.
Those extra $5 though ($4 from the German waitress story alone) had me reach 95% of my target. Despite the +60% rise over September they are still peanuts for the time and energy I invested, but at least they are fat peanuts:

My plans for November? I’d love each day to be as strong as Oct 31 on average, so that I can reach ~$250. Since I know that is highly unlikely I set a more realistic target of $150.
