Write a story or use images showing how you observe things around you or within you. What do you see when you pay attention? — Dr. Gabriella Korosi

As an aware human who can feel the pain of others, also with the ability to read and understand your emotions, even in written words, I pay attention to humanity’s actions and how they treat you, me, children, others, plants, animals, and our world. Thanks to that level of awareness, I aim to live the world I want. One where I add nothing cruel or hateful to it. One is where I am aware of your cruelty and use it as strength to heal myself and help others.

I battled the pain of the brutal thoughtlessness of someone I thought was a friend. I watched her create her own exit door for almost five years using ruthlessness, deception, and greed. When her actions closed it, it handed me the key. Only I possess the forgiveness key. I forgive, don’t forget, then I flee from some of them.

This one, the door must be closed forever.

She couldn’t understand why the door is closed, unaware that it was her own actions that closed it, and she fought to reopen it.

I reopened it to explain why it must remain closed.

“I am sorry,” she pleads sitting down on my sofa. “I know what I did was wrong.”

“Why are you sorry?” I asked, plopping down on the loveseat nearby, while reading her emotions, which showed something different from what her mouth said.

“Because I made a mistake.”

“Only one?” I asked, realizing that she still wasn’t aware of the damage her heartless intention and greed had done to me and our friendship.

“I said I was sorry!” she repeated rising up in anger.

Calmly, I stared at her and asked, “when is my birthday?”

Confusion hoists her perfect brows, and her head unconsciously turned my way as she battled with that memory.

I waited for her answer. None came, so I went on, “I always remember your birthday in more than twenty years we have known each other. You got many cards and birthday wishes too. What, you thought I dropped from the sky?”

Something pulled her back on the sofa, and she said, “You are reserved and private. You don’t discuss personal issues with me.”

“I am also a good friend who is always there for you. I became your therapist, financial advisor, nurse, doctor, lawyer etc. I give, and you take, and take, and take,” I dragged her back.

“I give back,” she defends.

“Material things, yes. But our friendship was always balanced in your favor. I gave you thought, consideration, understanding, forgiveness, love, patience, kindness etc. All of what I give made your life better. Why the cruelty towards me? Are you afraid of my strength?”

I waited; no answer came.

“That’s why I am never sorry for the cruelty and thoughtlessness done to me by humanity. Your cruel intentions made me stronger.

Your thoughtlessness increased my understanding.

Your vindictive behavior taught me patience.

Your actions towards me for no good reason forced me to increase my knowledge of humans, life, living, and our world.

Your wrong decisions I use as a guide to help me make better ones.

How you live your life taught me wisdom.

The words that flow from your heart, tell me who you really are.

I learn the value of common sense from the consequences of your mistakes.

All of your negative actions, I return positivity to you, healing myself.

Thanks to your unkind actions, you made my heart strong enough to handle and survive the inhumane treatment of humanity.

All of what you do, say, how you live, treat the ones that care for you, are lessons for me.

Because of your ruthlessness towards me, I became a better person.”

“So, all of what I did, I really didn’t hurt you,” was her callous retort flowing from her heart below.

I smiled, then shared, “not anymore. But I know someone it will hurt.”

“Who?” flew from her thoughts quickly.

“You,” I said rising from the sofa to open my door so she can leave. “You lose me, you lose a good friend.”

Shock paralyzed her for a moment. When reality hit, she slowly got up, head towards my front door, glancing back. She is damn lucky she isn’t Lot’s wife because she would become a pillar of salt.

At the exit, she turned again. I read the fear and pain in her eyes, that spreads across her face, and she repeats, “I am sorry.”

“I am not.”

I really am not sorry for the cruelty humans add to my life. They made me a better person by their actions. Thus, gives me the opportunity to live a good life, be aware, focus, and be able to help others.
