Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Reva is Just Another Cookie Cutter Dark Side Villain So Why do People Hate Her?

Star Wars and Ewan McGregor are right.

Moses Ingram, who portrays Reva on the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, has been receiving extremely negative backlash. Star Wars and Ewan McGregor have come to her defense. My question is what is there for the people who hate her to be upset about?

The character of Reva is really your basic dark side antagonist. Could her character develop more throughout the course of the show? Yes. But as of right now she really just checks all of the boxes that most villains in Star Wars typically check.

She’s aggressive. Check.

She’s filled with ambition. Check.

She squabbles with her co-workers. Check.

She betrays her immediate superior. Check.

So like… What are they mad about? Oh, she’s a woman and she’s black.

The argument about typically masculine traits being glorified in women and demonized in men by society today is not the same as people hating Moses Ingram the actress because of who she is rather than just disliking the character she plays on a television show.

Star Wars responded more forcefully than most would have expected. Tweeting:

Then followed that up with a personal message from Ewan McGregor.

Enough said.
