O Waitress!

Photo by Hennie Stander on Unsplash

The waitress stood and refused to speak While she chewed what appeared to be cheek, And tapped her pen at the two men and one lady guest. My very best Table she mused (though not really caring) And managed a smile in spite of the glaring Looks. She was used to those from the cooks!

I’ll just use plan B she suddenly thought, And hiked up the hem of the skirt that she’d bought On sale. For “no male can resist” were the words of the clerk, Who counted her quarters and dimes with a smirk, And remembered those days when she had to work For tips.

The waitress cocked her hips. “May I take your order?” she cooed at the man, Who was handsome and absent a ring on his hand, And appeared to be quite single. She could feel the first tingle Of hairs on her neck, When the man said “no thank you, just give us the check”, And began to unbutton his coat.

His clothes were all black, from his feet to his throat! At the base of his neck was a lily white collar That shocked her so much she was prompted to holler “Oh God!” “Not exactly” he said with a fatherly grin As he winked at his friends and lifted his chin Toward the light: “I take no offense dear, but He might!”

  • Thanks for reading and letting me have some fun! Waiters and waitresses are some of the hardest working folks I know, and I applaud them.
