NYPD Commandeers MTA Bus to Arrest Over 40 Peaceful Protesters

Over 40 peaceful #JewsAgainstICE protesters were arrested for occupying the Amazon flagship store in mid-Manhattan. The police had to commandeer an MTA bus to transport them.

Jewish activists in over 50 locations across the U.S. gathered yesterday to protest ICE and the border camps. It was Tisha B’Av, the Jewish day of mourning. Over 1,000 peaceful protesters occupied Amazon’s mid-Manhattan store to protest the company’s involvement. The NYPD arrested so many peaceful activists that they had to commandeer a passing MTA bus to transport the protesters. Estimates suggest over 40 participants were taken into custody.

The protest included both a march and a rally which temporarily shut down the Amazon flagship store. The giant tech company was influential in providing Homeland Security with the technology to identify and locate immigrants and has been rewarded with millions in government contracts. This action, as well as the series of actions protesting ICE over the last few months, was organized by several Jewish groups including: Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, T’ruah, Never Again Action, Congregation Beit Simchat Torah and others.
