DEAR DIARY

NYC Midnight Flash Fiction 2021 — Round 2

The next heat

Heat 1 is over, and the results are in. I didn’t win, but I did place in the top 15, which means I get 4 points and still could continue to Round 3.

This is my Round 1 story (slightly longer than submitted), and some of the feedback I received:

Wow. I was captivated by this sad, atmospheric story. You have a very strong voice. Your worldbuilding was excellent. I loved the way you created a strong, authentic sense of the South, with the gorgeous rhythm of your writing and evocative word choices.

The voice and attitude of the characters and the narration felt so full of life. It added an engaging level of creativity that made for an enjoyable read.

I thought your story was excellent, and there wasn’t much that I could suggest you edit.

Where they suggested I strive to improve is in my dialog, and that’s a very fair point. My dialog sucks…

And now on to Round 2- this one is definitely out of my wheelhouse, as it is a Romantic Comedy in a game show with a red fruit of some sort.
