Nowisms: the Publication
All we have is Now

We go through our days flying through our moments, which are more valuable than anything anyone can give you, or anything you can trade. There is nothing more miraculous than this now.
Here is a home for our nowisms in words.
Here is a place we can turn the gift of presence into creations.
As it is, we are merely bolting through our lives — gulping down undigested experiences as fast as we can stuff them in — because awareness of our own existence is so superficial and so narrow that nothing seems to us more boring than simple being.
If I ask you what you did, saw, heard, smelled, touched and tasted yesterday, I am likely to get nothing more than the thin, sketchy outline of the few things that you noticed, and of those only what you thought worth remembering.
Is it surprising that an existence so experienced seems so empty and bare that its hunger for an infinite future is insatiable?
How is it possible that a being with such sensitive jewels as the eyes, such enchanted musical instruments as the ears, and such a fabulous arabesque of nerves as the brain can experience itself as anything less than a god?
And, when you consider that this incalculably subtle organism is inseparable from the still more marvelous patterns of its environment — from the minutest electrical designs to the whole company of the galaxies — how is it conceivable that this incarnation of all eternity can be bored with being?”
― Alan Watts, The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are
Here at Nowisms we document our miracles of the moment in words.
What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What do you feel? What are you touching? What is touching you? What do you taste? What are your thoughts?
Our moments are all precious.
Are you sitting in a park with your notebook? Write your now. Put us into your moment with your words.
Are you untangling a moment that happened earlier in the day and it’s tangling into your now? Write your now and let us help you untangle it a bit.
Are you reflecting upon some feeling in your body? Get into your body and write your now. Help us understand how you are feeling.
Are you wanting to pause a now in time? Write your now and share your gift with us too!
There is no word limit here. How could I limit in words of your now moments?
🌿There is also NO editing at Nowisms.
What you submit to Nowisms will be your final draft, so become your own editor. You can do it, I have faith in you and your writing and editing skills!
We’re human and we make mistakes, so if you made mistakes in your nows what you send in will be, que sera sera.
You send it in and here’s what goes — follows Medium’s guidelines, has a title, header photo (a photo only owned by you please — so get creative, show us a now with a photo of your now and captioned) your words are expressing the moments you were experiencing and with kindness and respect for others. Please share it here on Nowisms.
If you’d like to be a writer please include your @ here in the responses, it’d be my pleasure to add you.
If you have any questions please feel free to include them in the responses.
I have just come up with this idea in my right now of today, while listening to the audiobook Siddartha I narrated the other day, with the wind chimes — so the Nowisms publication will probably evolve as time goes on.
It is my hope that having a place such as this, will remind you to take out a pen and pencil and get into the now.
Or to remind you just to be. Interbe.
We are human beings who need to just be in our nows.
To be fully aware of the gift of this present moment.
Whether your piece is stream of conciousness, a messy heartwriting piece, a logical, analytical close to perfection concise masterpiece, a comic book strip, a series of photos with words to describe your now, I welcome all of your nows.
I welcome your beautiful now into this space of Nowisms.
What you write about for Nowisms is what is the happening right now in the moment you are creating.
It can include what you are thinking now, about the past or the future, this is all now, but please document your exact nows as you are writing.
If you’d like to get an idea of what a Nowism is to me, here is a list of the pieces I’ve written in my moments of Now so far.
Yet, please be creative and write however you’d like to write it! But please be fully present in your own way in writing your nows. It can be poetry, art, prose, long form, short form, some new form of writing you have created, anything about your now.
Please I do ask you write from your heart in your now.
Our lives are fleeting, my friends. Remember your nows. And be fully present and aware of our moments. Writing the moment in words as we experience it for others to interbe in our nows.
Life is short, although we seem to be living out here as if we were immortal — our nows are all we have, this eternal now is our gift of life.
Please use your “sensitive jewels of eyes, enchanted musical instruments as the ears, and such the fabulous arabesque of nerves of your brain” to experience, deeply experience a few of your nows today. And to consider sharing your interbe with us here in words in the delight of your moments!
If you ever decide to remember your now in art or words, you know you have a home in the publication Nowisms to share here.
Welcome to Nowisms, my friend, welcome back to the beautiful gift of now. Your being is the fingerprint of our Universe. Every moment you’re present in your being is your purpose as you.
Looking forward, in this now, writers to be reading some of your nowisms in your interbeing.
Gratefully and with love,
💜
