Now & Then
For her, as always.
Now was unexpected then, Unlikely, so irrelevant, a Distant haze beyond that Span of years we never Thought to see, so sure Were we to fall long since, Fated by consequence for our Reckless rounds of endless Excess, with only the dregs Of joy to mark our passage.
Then was the moment now, A present of bright delights Brimming with potentials, Illusory and not, from which We plucked odd possibilities, Bound them into promises We could never keep, either Expecting the other to lose or To lose one another in the Stretch from then to when.
Now waned into then, and our Dreams of when blurred from Duties, derelictions and the Repercussions of promises Set aside to ease the tread Of day-to-day, distracting us, Allowing our gaze to slide Aside from all we once decried, Denied and then defied, until We reached this final shore.
Facing the fallacies of now and Then, we tally the depths of our Decline, measure the erosions of Our resolve and, finally, in this Inevitable, unavoidable dusk We understand the unexpected. It was not fear of here and now, Only approaching the end alone. Together, we need not fear but Rather count our blessings.
