Now That They Have Banned Dr. Seuss, Will The Bible Be Next?

Read the Old Testament and Decide if The Bible Should be Banned

My children read Dr. Seuss books and turned out fine. They are not violent people, murderers, or haters. On the contrary, they are kind, loving, good men.

Millions of children around the world have read at least some of the Dr. Seuss books and the vast majority are good, decent, honorable members of society. These children’s books have hurt no one.

So why is there this sudden outrage about Dr. Seuss?

I still have my sons’ Dr. Seuss books and I am not going to burn them.

The woke and cancel culture crowd is out of control. They find problems where there are none. To ban books is to ban freedom of thought, and freedom of speech. It is censorship and is not how democracy is supposed to work.

America is supposed to be the bastion of freedom and democracy and is the last place on Earth where the banning of books is to be considered.

Books are banned in countries all around the world.

The question to be asked when a country bans a book is, what do the politicians want to hide from the citizens?

Countries in which there are currently banned books include Canada, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, France, Iran, Indonesia, Ireland, Russia, Singapore, UK, and the United States.

Western Democracies are included in this list. I am certain that the authorities can advance what they see as excellent reasons for the bans, but I don’t buy them.

In my opinion, you can’t have your cake and eat it. You are either a democracy with all the accompanying rights and freedoms, or you are not.

Here is a list of the six Dr. Seuss books that will no longer be published.

  • And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street
  • If I Ran the Zoo
  • McElligot’s Pool
  • On Beyond Zebra!
  • Scrambled Eggs Super!
  • The Cat’s Quizzer

If these books haven’t twisted the minds of children in years gone by, why would they do so now? In my opinion, children are smarter and have more common sense than many adults.

Because these books will no longer be published, their prices have shot through the roof.

These are the prices on Amazon.com tonight in US$.

  • And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street — Hardcover from $235.00. Paperback not available.
  • If I Ran the Zoo — Hardcover from $375.00, and paperback from $494.95.
  • McElligot’s Pool — Hardcover from $349.00. Paperback not available.
  • On Beyond Zebra! — Hardcover from $688.94. Paperback not available.
  • Scrambled Eggs Super! — Hardcover from $500.00, and paperback from $449.95.
  • The Cat’s Quizzer — Hardcover from $749.00. Paperback not available.

The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well.

A list of books that are more harmful than any Dr. Seuss book, but available on Amazon.com.

  • The Communist Manifesto
  • Mein Kampf
  • Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung: The Little Red Book

No one will dare to ban these books because the outcry will be deafening, and there will be rioting in the streets.

Will the Bible be banned next?

Events in the Holy Bible are far more violent than anything found in these Dr. Seuss books which have suddenly fallen out of favor in some quarters. While those protesting Dr. Seuss are in the minority, they scream and shout the loudest, and get their way.

It seems to me that this is no way for a civilized society in the 21st century to conduct itself.

A few stories from the Holy Bible

Right from the start, we see Cain killing his brother Abel. Genesis 4: 1–9. No brotherly love, but treachery, jealousy, and murder.

King David committed adultery with the married Bathsheba and then arranged to have her husband killed. 2 Samuel 11:1–15. King David committed adultery, treachery, and murder.

The Lord sent the Prophet Samuel to order King Saul to: “Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’” 1 Samuel 15:3

The order was to kill everything and everyone and to spare nothing, not even an infant. Now, that is violence of Biblical proportions.

Jezebel, who did her best to replace the Hebrew God, Yahweh, with a pagan god in the Kingdom of Israel, died a violent death, and her body was eaten by dogs. 2 Kings 9:30–37

This is just a small sample of the violence in the Bible. However, like the children who read the Dr. Seuss books which will no longer be published, children who grew up in the church, and heard these and other stories, did not turn into raving lunatics and monsters.

Will the day ever come when irrational groups promote the banning of the Bible? It is possible. All it would take is for the politicians to do what the rabble demand. It has happened before.

Pilate asked the crowd who they wanted him to release, Barabbas or Christ. The crowd chose Barabbas. Matthew 27: 17- 26

In summary

There is something inherently wrong with banning books, especially in democratic societies. The Dr. Seuss books were soft targets for the woke brigade. It is easy to attack defenseless children especially since parents seem to have no voice, or are too afraid to speak up.

It is hypocritical to attack harmless children’s books but remain silent about the easily available The Communist Manifesto, Mein Kampf, and Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung: The Little Red Book.

There are great lessons and wisdom in the Holy Bible. It would be a very sad day if anyone tries to have it banned.
