November Writing Prompt for Pink Hair & Pronouns: Family

Family support can make all the difference for gender nonconforming kids

How is it already November?

I live in the Pacific Northwest, and here the weather has turned. Leaves have fallen, it’s wet and chilly most days, so we’re hunkering down and making vats of soups and stews. I love this time of year.

It’s also the time when many of us anticipate family vacations or visits, sometimes with multi-generational gatherings with family we don’t often see throughout the year. Which is great! Unless… it’s not.

And if you have a gender nonconforming child and family members with differing political views from yours, sometimes the situation can veer into… most definitely not great.

So, let’s check in and share stories of family.

  • Perhaps you have a story about how your family of origin has supported your gender nonconforming child.
  • Or perhaps you have a story about how you’ve responded when they haven’t.
  • Perhaps you’ve found chosen family who’ve been your family’s source of strength and wisdom.

Whatever your family story is, we’d like to hear it. If you’re not yet a writer for Pink Hair & Pronouns but would like to be added, please leave a comment here and I’ll be sure to add you.

I’ll be sure to share all your stories in the PHAP November newsletter.

Please use the tag “Family” so I can easily identify them (and so they end up on our homepage).

XOXOXO, Dana (aka All My Little Words) Editrix, PHAP
