November Prompts

It’s not all about gratitude, but thankfulness is definitely represented this month.

I haven’t been very active this month. Getting the yard ready for winter, working more, and catching a cold this week, make for a foggy brain. Our views are still lower than our reads at 18,182, and we had 295 unique daily visitors this month. On a few days, we had close to 500!

Interestingly, our visitors went up and our reads went down. I don’t think I’ll ever understand Medium’s stats. (Not sure they will, either.)

Bottom line: People are enjoying our work!

I’ve started a new publication for short fiction titled, Fiction Shorts. If you’re interested, check it out, and comment with your Medium handle. (@nancywrites for example.)

So, let’s get to it. Here’s the list of prompts for November.

30. Share your experience of doing a random act of kindness. I thought you might need a heads-up so you have time to do one or more random acts of kindness this month. Little things can make someone’s day and have even been known to save lives. We never know how something so simple for us, might be magic for someone. Holding the door, letting someone merge into traffic, telling a person their scarf is beautiful, sending an uplifting message to someone … the list is endless.

  1. Denise Kendig is wondering if we have any Halloween regrets.
  2. From regrets to gratitude. What have you learned from doing something you regret?
  3. Vincent Pisano asks us to share something we learned from conversing with someone in a language that wasn’t your native language.
  4. Julia A. Keirns would like you to write about apples. Story, poem, recipe … whatever comes to mind.
  5. Bruce Coulter wants to know if you feel the need to read and write in a tit-for-tat fashion in light of Medium’s updates.
  6. Lynn L. Alexander has us locked in a department store for 24 hours and wonders how we might occupy ourselves.
  7. Leigh-Anne Dennison asks what book, album, television show, or film you would want to watch again for the first time. (If you were able to wipe it from your mind.)
  8. Rachella Angel Page asks, do you now, or have you ever, had a celebrity obsession?
  9. Delaney Patterson is a nosy little thing. She wants to hear all about your first date. (And, so do I!)
  10. Luke Warburton: Write a letter from your present self to your past self, giving advice and insights on life and experiences you’ve gained. Conversely, write a letter from your future self to your present self, offering a glimpse into what lies ahead.
  11. Emma Vincent: What loving life lesson would you like to gift to someone in your life?
  12. Brandon Ellrich: “Write a tribute — whether an open letter or a sort of declaration — to a veteran you know. If you don’t know one, make it a general statement or even a poem.”
  13. A man leading a simple life asks, “What is the most unusual thing you ever found in a garden during harvest; and what did you do with it?”
  14. Daniel Marie: Describe your ideal van home. You have to (no arguments!) live on the road. Describe your perfect van home. (This should be a no-brainer for Julia!)
  15. What quality are you most grateful for in your partner?
  16. Pamela Oglesby (Welcome back!) asks: Do you get angry easily, or what makes you mad?
  17. Smriddhi asks, “What is your morning routine? What does your ideal morning routine look like? How can you bridge the gap?”
  18. Nathan Chen: What is something that used to scare you but no longer does? Why was it so scary?
  19. Kelly Corinne Elliott: She seemed like such a nice old lady until …
  20. Tanya Jain would like to see a photo essay telling the story of your childhood.
  21. Lynn L. Alexander asks if you could live life as a royal if you met your prince or princess.
  22. Luke Warburton: In a society where memories can be bought, sold, and traded, explore the consequences and ethical dilemmas of a person who chooses to erase their past. How does this choice affect their relationships and sense of self? (I usually break these down a bit so that people can go in any direction, but I have a cold and don’t have the brain power to do a good job of this one. Follow Luke’s directions, or pick a piece of the prompt and respond to that.)
  23. What’s the best thing that happened today?
  24. Emma Vincent asks us what the word mercy means to us.
  25. Delaney Patterson wants to know about a night we spend doing things we shouldn’t be doing.
  26. Write yourself a thank you note.
  27. Nicole Peery: You asked your favorite celebrity to narrate a day in your life. Who is it, and what do they say?
  28. Who is your favorite musician, or band? Do you have a favorite track?
  29. Lynn L. Alexander asks, “If you could afford it, would you have plastic surgery? If yes, what would you have done?”
  30. What was your experience doing a random act of kindness this month? (See the first prompt paragraph.)

I’m tagging the writers for the publication. If you don’t want to be tagged, please let me know. (I also know I don’t have all of the new writers. If you’re not on the list, please let me know.)
