There is always something for which to be grateful

This has been quite a month. Thanksgiving is here now, and the year is almost over. November was a month with an election like no other. Joe Biden became the President-elect, and Kamala Harris is the Vice President-elect of the United states of America. It was a long and hard fought campaign, but the votes were counted. The winners were declared.

With Donald Trump refusing to concede the election and insisting that he won, lots of turmoil has existed in the government. As reported by almost all of the news media, Republicans continued to support Trump in his baseless claims. He had warned that he would not commit to a peaceful transition, and he had claimed that there would be voter fraud if he did not win.

The fact that Trump and the Republicans can continue to dispute the election results is ridiculous. Because many Republicans won down the ballot, the Republicans should believe the numbers. They should not be carrying on as if Trump could still win. The Republican members of Congress have been catering to Trump for his entire term in office. They have seemed to go against the principles of common sense and decency to stick with him.

The election and the aftermath of it have been unprecedented. The nation has been shown to be divided and needs healing.

Then there was the coronavirus pandemic which did not let up but actually got worse. The numbers of positive cases have escalated in almost the entire United States with much of the world also suffering from worse numbers. It has been a bad month for COVID with illness and death. It is time for everyone to mask up without complaint and social distance as much as possible. Following the science is advisable.

The economic challenges being faced by millions of people because of the pandemic has created huge challenges. Many people are suffering because of losing jobs and work related problems. It’s time to care for and help others.

Racism has not ended. Racial injustice needs to be addressed. There have continued to be shootings and killings of Black people by the police and others. Racism against Asian Americans has become a big problem due to the ramblings of Trump and others about the coronavirus and China.

There are multiple crises facing the United States of America at this time. With November ending and less than two months until the new President is sworn in, there needs to be more civility in government and the nation. The Republicans and Democrats in Congress should be able to work together for the good of the nation.

There will always be division and opposition, but it should be an improved situation without Trump there to criticize and bully on a daily basis. It might be easier to get along and try to make things better for the good of all people. That may be wishful thinking.

They are all adults in Congress, according to biological age. Sometimes they have acted like children just like their Republican leader of the past four years. It is time for change.

November is the time of Thanksgiving. Although most people will not be able to gather in large family groups, everyone can give thanks. Be grateful to be alive and for the blessings which you have. Life has been challenging and difficult, but it should get better.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
