Novelty the Trickster

Sonnet

Drawing by the author.

Your nimble gait is bright and full of lies Tho’ each stride entices me ‘round this bend, And now I know despite so many tries I cannot keep and capture you, old friend; Exquisite storms and creosote ferment With dusty cacti and acacia trees — You vanish like a desert sacrament, Yet thinking bludgeons all such reveries; Legend tells us this life is short and rough Yet you never second guess, or rewind… I can’t forget to check myself enough, Unless I waken from the dream of mind — Your presence is my map and compass, so I take my lessons and my journeys slow.
