From time immemorial, I was never enough, On the outside, looking into a world not for me, Inhospitable, Unwelcoming. A foreign magical land that beckoned me, And rejected me. Over and over, just beyond reach. Almost there, but never good enough. I tried and tried. I served. I submitted. I left myself behind, A vestige of the unwelcome, I shed the pieces of my soul. Little by little, I allowed myself to die. Tiny pieces of me, left on life’s trail, Never reaching that special place, Of acceptance and love, No understanding, No peace, No one and no place to call my own. Until you. Large as life, soft as a kitten, In your arms, I found it all. I found me.
