Not His Valentine
Much Ado About Nothing

The end came swift in the night
In a whisper without a whimper,
With neither a word or woke,
As birds above soared with the empty wind
To embrace his sadness in the silent breeze;
They knew whatever never began
Has already waned.
With eyes filled with tears,
His heart stops pounding,
No more butterflies in the stomach
Leaving a void of emptiness.
It was the end of the beginning;
It’s time to begin the lonesome journey home.
Loneliness hurts deep inside;
You think she cares for you
As you care for her
And loved her so deeply and unconditionally,
He made her his Valentine.
He saw her bloom and blossom,
She transforms into a beautiful butterfly
And then she left.
Memories of yesteryears
Of her darkest moments of need;
He was there to meet her needs,
Providing her with funds and wants
Bringing food, comfort and care.
She had indeed forgotten all he did
As she found another man,
Her previous lover,
Who was not there in those dark moments
Of needy loneliness and love!
Immanent selfishness and ingratitude
Overcame love to end their friendship;
His love could not embolden gratitude,
Transient memories did not last.
The grateful and appreciative response to unconditional love is the most difficult of all our human feelings because of the deep natural human selfishness, the “me-first” desire for the world to satisfy one’s preference instead.
Ungrateful and selfish,
No more his Valentine;
She never was.
Yet he still loves her very much,
More than any man ever did
Or would ever love her.
The everlasting true love of a man
Cannot be fully grasped;
It should have been enough
To be his true Valentine.
