Not getting a Job? Here’s the Surprising Reason You’re Not Getting Hired — Part 2

The Essential Insight on Why a Career Coach, Not a Recruiter, Is Your Key to Success

A few days back, I published an article on why using a Career Coach in 2024 was better than using a recruiter. The problem is that people still think recruiters are working for them to get them placed in a job when that is not the reason. Their role is that of a headhunter, i.e., getting the right candidate for the people who hired them for their services — the Company.

In my last article, I mentioned 20 reasons to hire a Career Coach over a recruiter. However, I didn’t want to bore you all to sleep, so I split the article into two.

So here are the remaining reasons why you should pick a Career Coach over a Recruiter in 2024:

11. Career Transition Support: I mentioned earlier that Career coaches excel in this one area, which is assisting individuals considering or undergoing significant career changes. They are experts in guiding how to navigate transitions effectively. Most would have a massive trail of success stories. If anyone can help you transition into a new role, it is a Career Coach.

Recruiters typically focus on candidates who already fit specific job profiles. Trust me, they will not go out of their way to help you transition. Their Bread is buttered on the Company’s side, not yours.

12. Holistic Career Advice: Professional Career Coaches will always take a holistic view of your career. This includes what you are good at and what your passion is. Do you fancy work-life balance, personal fulfillment, career satisfaction, and other aspects that are often beyond the scope of a recruiter does. On the other hand, a recruiter’s job is to find the right candidate for the job.

13. Industry Insights and Trends: This is a big one. Especially as we transition into massive technological changes, with the advent of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Automation, new Careers, and new ways of working, you need someone with the knowledge to help you combat the latest wave of changes that are coming. That is where a Career Coach steps in.

While recruiters have deep knowledge about the industries they recruit for, in no way do they have the knowledge that career coaches have. They can provide broader insights into emerging trends, future skills demands, and advice on industries or roles you may not have considered previously.

14. Accountability Partner: With so many distractions in the world today, it’s only human nature for us to want to chill. Call it chilling or procrastination; a career coach will act as your accountability partner, helping you stay on track with your career goals, job search strategies, and professional development plans. Recruiters will not offer this level of personalized accountability. They don’t have the time or capacity.

15. Enhanced Job Search Techniques: Career coaches have very innovative ways of finding jobs. To add to this, they can teach you advanced job search techniques, which you may not have had an idea of. This can include leveraging social media, building a personal brand, and accessing the hidden job markets. This is something that recruiters cannot do for you, as they will only showcase the jobs of companies on their panels. This leaves you with a massive pool of jobs at your disposal that you would have never accessed unless you tapped into the skills of a Career Coach.

16. Entrepreneurial Advice: I love giving entrepreneurial advice to my clients, especially those who have entered their 40s and are worried about what if they lose their jobs. Will they get hired as they have already passed a certain age? Since most would be holding management positions, will they get a similar job? So, for those interested in starting their own business or becoming consultants or freelancers, a career coach can provide invaluable guidance in this area, which is outside the purview of most recruiters.

17. Customized Support for Different Career Stages: Whether you’re just starting out, mid-career, or contemplating retirement, career coaches offer customized support tailored to your specific stage in your career journey, providing strategies and tools relevant to each phase so that you are always taken care of. Recruiters will not be able to cater to individual needs like these. As mentioned above, they are more interested in closing off client positions as soon as possible to capture fast recruitment bonuses.

18. Objective and Unbiased Feedback: Since career coaches are not tied to specific job openings or employers, they can offer objective and unbiased feedback on your career plans, resume, and interview performance. This can help you make informed decisions about your career path and set you up for long-term success. Career Coaches work for you, so they have your best interests in mind.

Recruiters will always be biased as they would see what is better for them because the recruiting company is paying them and not you.

19. Mental Health and Well-being: The job search process can be emotionally taxing. Career coaches can offer strategies for managing stress, building resilience, and maintaining mental health during job searches and even career transitions. You won’t get that from a recruiter as they don’t have the time, but they are utilizing that time to network to find the right candidate for the job roles they are trying to fill.

20. Continuous Professional Development: Career coaches want you to succeed. They will encourage you to focus on continuous learning and professional development and ensure you are never irrelevant in the job market, no matter where in your career you may be. It would be best if you had someone like that on your side.

They will continue to help you identify opportunities for growth and ensure you remain competitive over the long term. This is really needed as times and roles are changing. Upskilling is extremely important as we move forward towards the future.

Once again, recruiters won’t do this because it is not their role, and they don’t have the bandwidth to do it, even if they want to.

So, if you have been struggling to find a job, see no growth in your career, or are just afraid if you lose your job, you will never get another one, reach out to a Career Coach. They will be able to guide you so that you become the Superhero in your story.
