Not Everyone Is As Content as Keanu Reeves

The more you lose in life, the more compassionate you become

This article is inspired by a trending article written by Tim Denning, which is listed below. I am intrigued by Tim’s article as much as he is intrigued by Keanu Reeves. I am a big fan of Keanu myself.

The most interesting aspect of Keanu’s popularity is that he is so much loved not because he is a great actor, but because he is a great human being!

He has been spotted among the public many times, blending like a common man struggling to live, his freedom unfettered by his stardom. How many celebrities are there like him? He has been spotted on the subway one time giving up his seat for a lady who was standing, sitting on a bench looking all contemplative and eating a sandwich which spawned a series of ‘Sad Keanu’ memes, one time he was found cosying on the street next to a homeless man, sharing wisdom with him.

And when Keanu is the guest for ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’, it would give us one of the most memorable moments of the entire history of the show. Keanu had the perfect answer to a question about death. The answer broke the internet, so I guess I will not reproduce it again here.

“Grief and Loss, Those Things Don’t Ever Go Away”

The question was particularly about the grief of John Wick’s character, but Keanu expressed that for the character and even in real life,

“…it’s about the love of the person you’re grieving for, and any time you can keep company with that fire, it is warm. I absolutely relate to that, and I don’t think you ever work through it. Grief and loss, those are things that don’t ever go away. They stay with you.”

When we lose things and people we love, we become more compassionate.

This is what I have learned from Keanu Reeves. He has suffered a lot and lost many people whom he loved, but that made him a better human being, made him aware of the value of love, compassion and empathy.

Like Trey Taylor wrote in an article about Keanu,

“He’s the People’s Prince who has suffered royal pains”

How much hit can a human take before he/she collapses? I am not sure about everyone, but Keanu, he keeps getting up, stronger and more compassionate each time. This is a quality that is rare and special. This is exactly what makes him special.

His father left him when he was three, lost his best friend, ‘River Pheonix’ to drug overdose, had a stillborn baby with his girlfriend, broke up with his girlfriends weeks after the incident, lost his ex-girlfriend to an accident, sister got diagnosed with cancer, but thankfully she survived!

Events like these in life can derail most men. You can take all the agony to your heart and believe that the world is a cruel place, you can care less about others, you can turn selfish, you can be a harsh man to deal with, you can destroy yourself in multiple ways.

But look what all the pain had done to Keanu?

He became more compassionate and loving towards his fellow beings. He understands the meaning of life and death better than the people who have everything. His compassion makes him stronger, help him beat all the odds that life throws at him.

Being ‘Content’ Is the Key to Happiness

Content: Satisfied or showing satisfaction with things as they are

Most of us want everything more. More money, more fame, more bikes, more cars, more everything. We are never happy because we don’t value the things that we have. We are not happy, because we have not lost much in our lives.

Keanu is a good example of someone who is content, not bothered by the glittery of celebrity status, not bothered by the sensation he creates every time he does something, not bothered by the money and fame. He spends most of his money on charity and helping others in need. At what cost? Sorry, there is no cost, only benefits. He benefits in ways we cannot understand. He is so content with what he has, content with what he is, content with what he knows.

Not everyone is as content as Keanu Reeves.

Life Teaches Us Good Stuff, but We Must Learn and Interpret Things in the Right Way

Keanu Reeves is a good learner. Rather than complaining about what he has lost, he is helping others with the kind of help he would have not received when he needed it.

We need to learn from our lives. We need to learn it the right way. We need good role models like Keanu Reeves for inspiration.
