Summary

The website content reflects on the personal journey of introspection and the search for self-awareness through music, inspired by Rasheed Hooda's writing on dreams.

Abstract

The author of the web content shares a deeply personal reflection prompted by Rasheed Hooda's exploration of dreams. After a period of not remembering dreams, the author has recently started to recall them, which coincides with a significant personal transformation referred to as a "Kensho" moment. This transformation has led the author to look inward for answers, realizing that despite external pressures and expectations, the solutions lie within oneself. The author uses a selection of songs to convey the struggle and beauty of this inward journey, describing the process of trying to articulate the ineffable. The songs "No One Knows" by Queens of the Stone Age, "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac, "Xrays" by Gomez, "Solid Rock" by Goanna, and "Power and the Passion" by Midnight Oil are presented as a soundtrack to the author's last 18 months of self-discovery. Each song is associated with the author's reflections on change, the passage of time, the importance of connection, and the realization that life is lived on "borrowed time." The author invites readers to engage with the music and consider their interpretations, acknowledging the unique and personal nature of such an introspective journey.

Lyrical Journey Within to Describe the Indescribable- prompted by Rasheed Hooda

When I read Rasheed Hooda’s Dreams, I felt tingles.

I have just started remembering my dreams since becoming a parent 6 years ago. An energy deficiency and a lurking inevitable Kensho moment the likely culprits.

Rasheed got me thinking.

The soundtrack to my life is full and varied. It was almost impossible for me to pick only five.

The thought was shoved to the back of my mind to think about another time.

Last night, I was awoken briefly by my partner’s midnight visit to the kitchen. As I was drifting back to sleep the thought reappeared.

From the seemingly endless piles of songs available, these were the ones that came to mind as I was drifting off. Was this a dream or a meditative state? Or are they the same? Questions I don’t have the answers to…yet.

I was clueless to the connection until this morning when I started looking for the dots.

The message that struck me was even though you have filters, expectations, systems against you AND it will be hard… the answer is you. You go within. The answers are there. Embrace whatever the unfolding change is.

Each song an attempt to describe the indescribable.

Like with anything, depends how deeply you want to go, but, this is the thread I picked up.

A representation of my last 18 months since my Kensho moment. A gift of connection from my returning dreams sparked from Rasheed’s words.

When I read some other theories of what each song was about, they were completely different to my thinking.

Infinite possibilities from our unique selves at play.

Love to know what others see in them. (Apologies about the formatting – I have been waiting a part for my computer for 5 weeks, and this is the best I have figured out how to format on an iPad!)

No One Knows – Queens of the Stone Age

We get some rules to follow

That and this

These and those

No one knows

We get these pills to swallow

How they stick

In your throat

Tastes like gold

Oh, what you do to me

No one knows

And I realize you’re mine

Indeed a fool am I

And I realize you’re mine

Indeed a fool am I

Ah

I journey through the desert

Of the mind

With no hope

I found low

I drift along the ocean

Dead lifeboats in the sun

And come undone

Pleasantly caving in

I come undone

And I realize you’re mine

Indeed a fool am I

And I realize you’re mine

Indeed a fool I

Ah

Heaven smiles above me

What a gift her below

But no one knows

A gift that you give to me

No one knows

Landslide – Fleetwood Mac

I took my love, I took it down

Climbed a mountain and I turned around

And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills

Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?

Can the child within my heart rise above?

Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?

Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Mmm, mmm, mmm

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing

‘Cause I’ve built my life around you

But time makes you bolder

Even children get older and I’m getting older too

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing

‘Cause I’ve built my life around you

But time makes you bolder

Even children get older and I’m getting older too

Oh, I’m getting older too

Awh, take my love, take it down

Awh, climb a mountain and turn around

And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills

Well, the landslide bring it down

And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills

Well, the landslide bring it down

Oh, the landslide bring it down

Xrays – Gomez

All the times we float through

The air we breathe in

Keep on places we’ve got to share

Get to see them

You didn’t turn it on

But you can’t turn it off

I know you didn’t turn it on

But you can’t turn it off

All the information

Competing for the memory

Perfect situation

Consuming all the energy

We didn’t turn it on

But we can’t turn it off

I know we didn’t turn it on

But we can’t turn it off

Can we rediscover what we had?

Oh, I never felt it dissolving

And it’s nothing like what we used to have

Oh, we never saw it fading away, being human

It’s time to figure out what went wrong

And seal the distance too far across

We should just start crossing it

The distance doesn’t exist

It’s time to let go of what we lost

A heavy elixir

Felt it slip through my fingers

As I raised my hands to my face

It’s time we made our final stop

And look for the air that is yet to be touched

By any other human being

Being human

You can’t turn it off

I know you didn’t turn it on

But you can’t turn it off

Solid Rock – Goanna

Out here nothin’ changes, not in a hurry anyway

You feel the endlessness with the comin’ of the light o’ day

We’re talkin’ about a chosen place

You wouldn’t sell it in a marketplace, well

Well just a minute now

Standing on solid rock

Standing on sacred ground

Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime

And the winds of change are blowin’ down the line

Right down the line

Round about the dawn o’ time, When dreamin’ all began

A crowd o’ people came

Well they were looking for their promised land

Were running from the heart of darkness

Searching for the heart o’ light

Well it was their paradise

But they were standin’ on – solid rock

Standing o-on sacred grou-ound

Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime

And the winds of change were blowing cold that night

Oh

They were standin’ on the shore one day, Saw the white sails in the sun

Wasn’t long before they felt the sting, white man, white law, white gun

Don’t tell me that it’s justified, ‘cause somewhere, someone lied

Yeah well someone lied, someone lied, genocide

Well someone lied, oh, ahh

And now you’re standing on – solid rock

Standing o-on a sacred grou-ound

Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime

And the winds of change are blowin’ down the li-ine

Solid rock, Standing on sacred ground

Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime

And the winds of change are blowing down the line

Solid rock, Standing o-on sacred grou-ound

Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime

And the winds of change are blowing down the line

Oh-oh-oh no, NO-O

Power and the Passion – Midnight Oil

People, wasting away in paradise

Going backward, once in a while

Moving ahead, falling behind

What do you believe, what do you believe

What do you believe is true

Nothing they say makes a difference this way

Nothing they say will do

Take all the trouble that you can afford

At least you won’t have time to be bored

Oh the power and the passion, oh the temper of the time

Oh the power and the passion

Sometimes you’ve got to take the hardest line

Sun burnt faces around, with skin so brown

Smiling zinc cream and crowds, Sundays the beach never a cloud

Breathing eucalypti, pushing panel vans

Stuff and munch junk food

Laughing at the truth, ‘cause Gough was tough till he hit the rough

Uncle Sam and John were quite enough

Too much of sunshine too much of sky

It’s enough to make you want to cry

Oh the power

I see buildings, clothing the sky, in paradise

Sydney, nights are warm

Daytime telly, blue rinse dawn

Dad’s so bad he lives in the pub, it’s a underarms and football clubs

Flat chat, Pine Gap, in every home a Big Mac

And no one goes outback, that’s that

You take what you get and get what you please

It’s better to die on your feet than to live on your knees

Oh the power
