No, It’s Not The Job of The Oppressed to Educate The Oppressor

And I’m allowed to get pissed at you.

“Why can’t we have civil conversations anymore?!”

I’m in the twilight zone. Everyone must’ve hit the breaks in 2021, packed their bags, and moved to the moon with Elon Musk. No one seems to understand the political climate we’re in right now.

Whenever I hear people say this, I think two things:

  1. Okay, boomer
  2. A fragile snowflake, you are (*Yoda voice*)

I find it weird how people are STILL giving others shit about having “civil conversations” when we talk about social issues. The common argument?

“You’re not going to change anyone’s mind by yelling at them!”

Umm…maybe I don’t care to do that.

Just because someone talks loudly, it doesn’t mean that their opinion is invalid.

There’s this weird negative connotation that anything that’s above our favored volume level is bad.

I guess that’s why so many people hate heavy metal. But it has a loyal fanbase for a reason — it says shit most people don’t want to hear. It doesn’t give a fuck whether you like it or not. You take it or leave it.

Sure, I might scream at you, but that doesn’t mean my opinion is invalid.

People need to wake up and smell the roses. We’re not children. This isn’t kindergarten where everyone has to use their “inside voices.” This is real life — and it’s killing people.

So I can’t yell about a system that kills people? Okay.

Most people are done trying to change everyone's mind.

American politics are extremely polarized now.

America is also individualist as hell. No matter how many heavy metal concerts I give, riding on my horse from house to house like Paul Revere, some people will never change. That’s fine. I’ve learned to live with that.

A lot of us, Americans, have particular personal experiences that just outweigh the experiences of a whole group (individualism sucks).

Most people don’t yell to change people’s minds, they yell because someone said some out-of-pocket stuff and they need to be held accountable.

Yes, we all have free speech, but people never want to read the fine print. Free speech doesn’t mean you’re free of ALL consequences that come with it. There is going to be pushback on both sides.

I’m not going around as some Jehovah witness trying to convert people to my cause. I’m trying to get more work done for my cause — whether people are with me or not.

Most people are waking up to the bullcrap and people hate that.

Whenever people say they want others to have “civil conversations,” most of them don’t actually mean it.

They’re saying they want us to go back to a time (preferably in the 1800s) where minorities shut up about these issues and kept taking the jabs society threw at them.

We’re never going back that time ever again.

This is the new normal.

People are being more vocal about these issues. Most people can’t handle this. It’s a red flag that their privilege is crumbling before their very eyes.

Each new generation is growing more aware of these social issues. This is a new time we’re living in. If people don’t see change quick enough, there might be some violence happening.

Let’s not forget that Martin Luther King tried having a civil conversation too — and we all know what happened.

Final Thought

There’s no point in being “civil” anymore.

People aren’t going to take oppression anymore. People are waking up to the bullcrap. People want to see real change — not have a conversation.

Most people aren’t trying to convert people anymore. They want policies to protect them. They’re willing to take drastic measures to get it.

So if you’re not about that life, move out of the way.

Or people will move you themselves.
