No Hope For Peace

Or Is There?

To Whom It May Concern:

I recently came across a video of a black man in a full blown conversation with a white heterosexual couple. The black man noted the following: “There’s a difference between peace and liberation…. You can have injustice and have peace…..but in the long run, you can’t have peace unless everyone is equal.”

This powerful diction from this black man made me come to the immediate conclusion that we will never have peace. Even when there’s calm and quiet in a nation; underneath, there is instability brewing because a certain group or faction is always being ostracized, persecuted and alienated.

Even outside the race dynamic, consider the persistent inequalities between the sexes, classes and nations as a whole; these power dynamics are ripe grounds for unrest.

If we take a look and dissect what the black man noted above, we can truly understand the forces that are responsible for the inequalities our societies currently endure.

Firstly, let’s interpret the concept of “peace.” Peace entails the absence of war, chaos and unrest. The word “liberation” on the other hand symbolizes harmony, equality and freedom.

Now, when there are existing injustices, people are not liberated. There may be peace because there hasn’t been any conflict or unrest on display, however, underneath all that façade of harmony, the alienated are brainstorming ideas for ways to be heard or more accurately; liberated.

When the weak are tired of being dominated and trampled upon, they will rebel to dislodge and overthrow the system that has oppressed them for so many years.

I know my title is very pessimistic in nature. But, I am a realist. I like to look at what came before and what currently is, and make my point based on the facts presented. Our future is not looking pretty.

We will never have peace because our world order is based upon the idea of the powerful few ruling over the masses. And the powerful are not very kind in nature. They are flagrant and inconsiderate. Greedy and corrupt. They have all the ugly traits that will insinuate a revolution.

I would like to hear your view on the concept of peace. Feel free to share in the comments.

Barry
