Abstract

The poem "No Consolation" by America Zed delves into the themes of life's cruelty, unfulfilled hopes, and the tragic consequences of a loveless existence. It laments the world's indifference and the lack of compassion for those in despair, highlighting the sorrowful journey of an individual who faced hardships alone. The poem suggests that even the beauty of nature and the potential for joy went unnoticed by the subject, leading to a life devoid of the warmth and connection that might have saved them. The author conveys a deep sense of regret for the lost life, emphasizing that no amount of death can compensate for a life marked by unkindness.

No Consolation

Poetry of life and death

World is sorry how it held you down against your will, That isn’t how the children play but when they learn of hell.

Sorry you were starved yet cruelty gave more than enough, It took no strength to cut off hope and scratch your future rough.

All you longed for was a friend One hand to lift the blind, Why did no angel find your cell Use powered heart and mind.

Still no warmth closed on your pain All prayers were lost above, We still can’t find a remedy for where there is no love.

Sky is sorry that there wasn’t time for you to see, Before you died that you were treasure Made for joy and peace.

Giving all to others when the poor road lay ahead, Sun witnessed a line of stone Sad pre-taster of death.

Air planted yellow flowers but your soul would trace no color, If only home had special arms you’d be here like the others.

Love would not appear Your fate was doomed for all of time.

No death is consolation for unkind.
