Summary

The article criticizes Apple's claim of being eco-friendly, suggesting that their practices, such as annual phone releases and removal of charging bricks, are more about profit and consumerism than genuine environmental concern.

No, Apple Doesn’t Care About Ecology

Here is why you shouldn’t believe the liars

Apple is the company that always changes the market by doing something unique, whether it’s good or bad. It has been like this for years, with the notch, AirPods, FaceID, and so on.

This year wasn’t an exception, it’s charging bricks and ecology this time. Ecology is obviously a big and good trend that is growing rapidly in recent years. But a lot of companies are just using it to appeal to people who are concerned with climate change and make more money. Here is why.

What It Means To Be Eco-Friendly

Being eco-friendly means not buying things in the first place. It is surely better to buy a product in eco-packaging, but you are still consuming a good that was made using energy, electricity, and so on.

Being eco-friendly doesn’t mean promoting your new phone every year with mainly minor improvements that could easily work for 4 or 5 years after the release but you are still saying how better the iPhones are getting.

Apple could make a 120 HZ screen on the iPhone, but they didn’t. Instead, they left it to the next year and when they will tell everyone about the revolution.

They started noticing that sucking everything out of the technologies every single year makes it pretty hard to surprise a hungry audience. It’s better to think ahead and leave some tech features for the next year.

Apple’s Products Are Still Not Eco-Friendly

Even though all the boxes are biodegradable, even though phones are made out of eco-materials they still require not eco resources to be used.

Production of any goods on Earth requires you to use electricity, you have to transport everything via planes, cars, or ships, and some of the components, like batteries, are very harmful to the environment.

You could talk forever about how environmentally friendly your materials are, but no tech can be good for nature and no company in the world will tell you about this.

What Do You Mean You Care About Ecology?

If Apple truly cared about making this world greener, they wouldn’t slow down older iPhone models to make people buy new ones.

They wouldn’t make iPhones impossible to use after a repair, even with the original parts.

If Tim truly loved nature, he would do anything to make iPhones as long-lasting, durable as possible, he wouldn’t make new iPhones every year and tell you to buy them, he would do anything so you didn’t have to go to the store and buy a brand new phone.

The Chargers

Ah, the chargers. I think that charging bricks are removed and presented to you as a selling point to hide the problem that phones are still not entirely green and are becoming more expensive.

If Apple wanted to make this world better, it would make iPhones with Type-C ports. This would make it easier for people who switched from android or those who have a lot of Type-C cables at home. These cables are just objectively better and are a standard now.

“No”, says apple by showing you the income they get from lightning cables which are now switched to Type-C to lightning so you can’t use your old adapters with these wires. If you come from iPhone 7, please be sure to buy an adapter from Apple.

If Apple switched to the newer standard, they would make drastically less money on licensed chargers because people would just buy the third party ones.

Furthermore, why do they still put power adapters in the iPad and Titanium Apple Watch Series 6 boxes? Are those “other things”? Why doesn’t this apply to other products?

The Best Way to Save Our Planet

Is to stop making new phones and promoting them every year. Consumerism is still a bad thing even if you buy environmentally friendly goods. And this is the message we have to spread.

Ecology is just a selling point for Apple. Getting rid of adapters and making the box smaller is undoubtedly a good decision, but Apple is obviously trying to upsell their customers with the adapters people don’t have.

Conclusion

I am not saying that making products more environmentally friendly is a bad thing. All I am saying is that making a box smaller is a very minor thing comparing to the real environmental problems out there that Apple ignores.

Moreover, it makes the production and transportation costs smaller, so Apple could hide the price difference between older and newer models.

I am an Apple guy. I love Apple and everything they do. They should spread the message about the climate crisis because they can make a difference. But the latest presentation was something we had to talk about.

Dear Apple,

If your products were made so they could last longer, then it would be entirely OK to say that you are an eco-friendly company. Encouraging people to buy every new gadget you make would not.
