Education develops a wide range of appreciation for various approaches and endeavors. Scholars relate their interests and insights to contemporary thoughts and needs in an atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance.
Here are nine statements about learning and education that I have encountered:
1. The body of humankind has two eyes: the sage and the scholar.
2. Scholarship is the standard waving between earth and heaven. The scholar represents steadfastness between the billows of the ocean of words and the stars of the firmament of ideas.
3. One who arises to serve others is as though blessed by the highest concourse.
4. Acquiring all humankind’s limited and material learning cannot be considered possessing actual knowledge.
5. The acme of knowledge and summit of wisdom is knowledge of God.
6. Those of fame, accomplishments, and vast erudition receive their light from the lamp of inner vision.
7. Mountains of gold and silver cannot outweigh the value of a solution to a complex problem. A king’s treasures cannot compare to a single drop from the fountain of knowledge.
8. An unlit candle or an uninspired learner is no better than a pile of sticks.
9. It is a blessing to correlate one’s beliefs with solving the current thoughts and problems of the world’s people.
There are my own beliefs, from ideas I have about teaching and learning. I have been a teacher, coach, tutor, and mentor with many age levels.

I write about addiction to substances, behaviors, and thistles of the soul.
