Newsbreak Needs To Fix Their Issues

Many things to solve to remain attractive for writers

Not long ago I started publishing content on the platform Newsbreak. Then it seemed a very great opportunity to distribute the content related to news/opinion and politics and it was for while.

In my first month, I started earning between $100 and $250 — which was completely unexpected.

Many opportunities on the platform I thought and in December I earned more than $2000 on the platform writing about local weather forecasts in the US.

My stats were exploding like this:

This stunned me but the month after that my earnings plummeted — articles that had an RPM of 3–4 in the past now sat as low as 0.01–0.10. It just wasn’t worth the effort anymore.

But more things make writers run away from Newsbreak.

Biased Editors are Running the Place

The thing I noticed from the beginning is that the editors that have to approve your content are biased — so publishing opinion articles isn’t going to work out if you’re complying with their ideas.

Since it’s a platform where your content has to be reviewed before it gets published, unlike Medium it can take a while to get your content approved, which gets me to the next thing — the approval process of content.

Content Approval is Taking Forever

Sometimes, the content approval takes a while — it’s not always the same because there are actual humans that do the process.

But that’s not the only thing, I and many writers can’t get a grip on what they want — they tell us that our content is not approved but not why or not giving us feedback.

Then there’s communication in general.

Last month, the platform was down for the whole weekend and some people couldn’t log in, some could — really confusing.

I couldn’t log in and there was zero communication regarding it.

This doesn’t mean that I want them to speak in detail about anything to every single creator but you could have at least sent out a message on Facebook, Twitter, per email that they were aware of these issues and were working on them.

Now, nobody knew what was going on.

Wrapping Up

As I wrote in a post on Medium published in The Shortform: I left Newsbreak — but not really.

Sometimes I write a piece because I’m interested in the topic and I want to share that with the world. If it’s urgent news or something related to local news, Newsbreak is the best platform to publish on.

Because they are a good platform, they just have their flaws as every company has. If they could fix some of these things or at least improve on them, a lot of writers would come back to the platform.

These issues are the reasons for many of us to run from the platform.
