The latest survey conducted by Surfshark has revealed that a significant portion of TikTok users in the U.S., one-third, are in favor of banning the app, reflecting growing concerns over its influence and global reach. Despite this, the majority of users, including the author who has a substantial following on the platform, do not support a ban. The app's popularity surged during the pandemic, and its user base in the U.S. stands at 150 million, as confirmed by TikTok CEO Shou Chew during his congressional testimony. The survey, which included 1,000 American TikTok users, was conducted between April 27th and May 3rd, 2023, and focused on user attitudes towards TikTok. It found that support for a ban is lowest among Gen Z and Gen X users, with only 19% in favor, while 43% of millennials showed at least partial agreement with a ban. Millennials are also more aware that TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. In response to the potential ban, 35% of users indicated they would use proxies or VPNs to continue accessing TikTok.

Newest Survey Reveals Users of TikTok Support A Ban

Regardless of the efforts by TikTok to continually ease lawmakers, pressure is mounting against the popular app. In detailed survey conducted by Surfshark showed 1 in 3 American TikTok users support a ban of the influential and global app.

After the passage by the state of Montana banning entirely the app, this study shows the distrust continues to mount. If TikTok were to cease all operations in the U.S., exactly 35% plan on using proxies or VPNs to bypass in the event of a ban.

TikTok is insanely popular in the US. Let’s not forget that the app grow in popularity during the pandemic and lockdowns. Furthermore, the toxicity of politics plaguing Twitter and Facebook drew users towards TikTok that includes me, the author of this post. I have over 400,000 followers on there.

When you ask Gen Z and Gen X about the ban just 19% of users support it. However, 43% of millennials indicated at least a partial agreement.

When you ask Millennials, Gen Z or Gen X, only one group is aware of who owns the app. Millennials have the highest level of awareness that TikTok is owned by ByteDance, which is based in China.

The sample size of the survey was 1,000 American TikTok users. The focus of the study was centered on people’s attitudes on Tiktok. The survey was carried out between April 27th and May 3rd, 2023.
