New Year’s Resolutions Suck
Affirmations my ass
If I read one more life-affirming article I think I’m going to puke. I’m so tired of reading how the new year is going to be so much better. How the author’s life is going to be more positive. More loving. Healthier. Blah, blah, blah. Why the hell do you have to wait until January first of any year to chase your dreams, change your diet, fall in love?
Millions of people on this planet have had their lives change forever in the last two years. The loss of loved ones results in grief. Sometimes poverty. Homelessness. Loneliness. Things that go bump in the night.
I am one of them. All the affirmations I can dream of will not soothe the grief. It’s just made-up fake bullshit. For millions on this planet. If you only knew how many times I’ve heard others tell me it will get better.
When? On New Years Day? Will the magic faucet be turned on and wash away all my sorrow? NO…IT WON’T!
Will I magically believe the love of my life is in another room just waiting for me? NO…I WON’T!
Will the millions of people suffering from a similar loss just “get over it” because of a calendar change? YEAH RIGHT!
What idiot would believe such nonsense? Only those that haven’t walked that walk. They go about their lives planning the next day, week, year, a lifetime. So busy planning their lives they forget to live their lives.
And then in just a moment, a blink of an eye, the realization that the only thing that really mattered in your life is gone. The realization that the life you had planned was simply an illusion.
So for all of you reading this with your newly formed positive affirmations for the new year…good luck with that. Hopefully, for your sake, you won’t have to learn the most difficult life lesson this year. As much as you might convince yourself otherwise YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL.
