Summary

The article advocates for adopting systems and habits over traditional New Year's resolutions to achieve long-term success and personal growth.

Abstract

The concept of New Year's resolutions is deemed outdated and ineffective by the author, who suggests that creating systems and habits is a more sustainable approach to achieving success. Instead of setting goals that can lead to a pass/fail mindset, the article encourages readers to focus on the journey and process of self-improvement. By establishing systems that promote healthy habits and positive self-identity, individuals can experience compounded growth and lifestyle changes that lead to the achievement of their desires without being limited by specific goals. The author, Philosopher Paco, emphasizes that the key to reaching one's potential is not in the size of the goals but in the strategy and consistency of the execution methods, with a focus on marginal improvements.

Opinions

  • New Year's resolutions are often not met or tracked throughout the year.
  • Implementing new systems instead of goals can lead to more effective and lasting change.
  • Systems help restructure habits and reshape identity, which is more beneficial than stagnant goals.
  • A goal without a system for execution is unlikely to be achieved.
  • Success is determined by strategic and consistent execution methods, not by the grandiosity of one's goals.
  • Focusing on who you want to become, rather than what you want to achieve, is a more fruitful approach to personal development.
  • The author, Destiny, supports the idea that only a few people reach their goals because they lack the right systems, and she offers resources for further reading on the topic.

New Year Resolutions Are A Good Concept, But They Don’t Actually Work

Try this instead and skyrocket your success

“New Years Resolutions”

It is a good concept, though I believe it may be archaic and perhaps not as effective as some think. Let’s be real, mates…most of us don’t meet our new Year goals/resolutions — much less even track them a whole year.

Try something different this year! Instead of making new goals for 2022, try implementing new “systems” this year. This makes your resolutions more process/journey-based. Goals can be stagnant and limiting.

Why put yourself in a pass/fail situation?

For Example — 2022 Goal: I want to lose 30 pounds.

System 1

I’m going to work out 6 times a week for 45 mins each session. I will go rock climbing 3 times a week. I will refrain from bread, sweets, and junk food Monday through Saturday. I will meal low-carb prep meals for the week. I will lead a healthy and athletic life.

You see, what this does is create a system that will lead to desirable results.

This system focuses on restructuring your habits and reshaping your identity, leading to a lifestyle of physical fitness and healthy eating, ultimately leading to weight loss, muscle growth, and healthy living.

What Is Your Path? Create A System!

Losing 30 pounds is admirable, but what is your path to get there??

Focus on creating effective habits and establishing new positive self-identities.

This is what will lead to success! Small improvements daily in all areas lead to compounded growth over time.

Don’t limit yourself with goals.

Create systems!

Establish Positive habits!

Don’t focus on what you want to achieve — focus on who you want to become!

The rest will fall in line.

My thoughts

I 100% agree with this mentality.

You can create a goal, but the goal will not be achieved if there is no process or system. You must have a plan of execution in place, so you know exactly what you need to do to get from point A to B.

Many people have epic dreams that never become a reality because they don’t know how to execute.

As I mention in the following article:

Many of us have the same goals, but only a few reach the destination, the primary reason being we don’t have the right system in place.

The people who reach their goals don’t do so by luck or default; they do so through effective systems. These systems are often rudimentary at the foundation; they only require one input: consistent marginal improvements.

It’s not about how big your goals are. It’s about how strategic and consistent your execution methods are; this is the determinant that gets you from point A to Z.

Learn how to execute and change your entire life direction.
