New Year Prompts: 30–31st

Putting an end to the savior complex in 2023

2022 was an intense year. Lots of ups, lots of downs and very few in-betweens. I wouldn’t wanna have it any other way, though.

I believe this is the third New Year we’re celebrating here at KTHT. Or is it the fourth? I’ve honestly lost track. This publication has become such a big part of my identity over the years. It has seen me at my worst and it has seen me at my best. It has welcomed and said goodbye to lots of writers and few editors.

As you’ve probably already heard, jules is leaving KTHT to embark on a new journey. She will be greatly missed both as a friend and editor. We are eternally grateful to Jules for everything.

As for right now, we are not planning to add any new editors. We will continue to publish your submissions and assist you with your writing and spiritual journey with the best of our abilities.

As for the NY prompts….I’ve thought long and hard about what has been the toughest lesson for me to learn this year. I’ve moved on my own, changed two jobs, witnessed my parents divorcing, started going to therapy, ended friendships and started new ones, travelled and experienced both heartache and joy within my relationship.

Although I didn’t have as many moments of self reflection as I would’ve probably needed, I did make the most of those few ones I had. I learned that I suffer from a thing called savior complex, which basically means that for whatever reason, I have a strong belief that I can save another from pain, loneliness and struggles.

Today’s and tomorrow’s prompts are all about this savior complex and it’s dedicated to anyone who can relate to it. Please share your thoughts, feelings, experiences and the methods that you’ve found to work best for you:

Prompt 1: Why am I trying to save people?

Prompt 2: How have I taken responsibility for things I cannot be responsible for?

Looking forward to reading everyone’s submissions!

Thank you for being with us this year! We love and cherish you all.
