New Year, New Me? Here’s 4 Pieces Of Advice You Must Take Into The New Year.

At the time of writing, we are officially 1 week into the new year!

I can guarantee that people have already failed their New Year's resolutions (I hope you haven't though).

Either way, you might be feeling some pressure to keep consistent with your new habits, so here is some advice for you if you feel like things are getting too heavy.

JR

Eat the Frog.

Imagine you had to eat a frog.

But if you did,

you then get to enjoy some of the best food prepared by Michelin-star chefs.

Would you choose to eat it before or after?

In the same way, we reach for our phone in the morning, instead, we should do the most difficult task of the day when we wake up.

This way, the rest of the day becomes easier and more enjoyable since we have less stress in completing this high-priority task.

Eat the Frog.

Say no to the unnecessary.

A lot of people like being “busy” for the sake of being busy

Over cluttering their schedules with other people's work or just meaningless activities they've made for themselves.

Think about what serves you in the best way possible towards your goals.

Does this task contribute my best efforts to achieving what I want?

No?

Then it must go.

In the same light, when we are asked for our efforts or resources if it doesn't benefit us in a way that fulfils our goals, then it cannot be carried out.

Now I'm not saying to not help people, we should all aim to have compassion and empathy.

But in that same breath, people also have the ability to solve their own problems.

Don't take that away from them.

Daily Education

Society teaches us that education is important, and rightly so; the more you know, the more you have at your disposal to apply as and when it’s needed.

Which is why you should actively look to source knowledge on your own.

Schools are great at providing the big bricks in your knowledge.

However, self-education creates the concrete between the bricks.

You can build a wall purely from concrete.

While it may take far longer than if you combined it with the use of bricks,

you couldn’t build a wall purely from bricks alone…

Staying focused on the purpose

We are exactly like computers.

Our brain can only effectively retain so much information on a short-term basis before we start experiencing forgetfulness or our work starts to become suffer.

Rather than trying to execute and complete lots of tasks all at once, aim to complete 1 task every day for 365 days.

Imagine where that could lead you.

You get all the benefits of achieving your goals without the burnout, fatigue and mental stress of completing absolutely everything in one chunk.

(plus you get to see the progression over time).
