New Writers, This Is How Much Money You Can Make on Medium (in 2024)!
I share with you the income opportunities you can achieve if you do the work and put your heart and sweat into writing on Medium.
“How much can I make writing on Medium?”
This is the most popular question I get asked by new writers.
The second most popular question:
“Is Medium dead? I heard you can’t earn any money on Medium anymore.”
It’s hard to trust what you read and watch online, especially if it involves earning money and those who tell you:
“Write one article (with AI) and earn $2,000.”
Since I help writers and authors start writing on Medium, build an audience and market and monetize their work, I see a lot of backends.
So my short and sweet answer for people who are newish to writing on the popular publishing platform:
“Yes, you can write and make money online on Medium!”
I’ll show you how doable this whole online writing thing can be for you… if you put some work, sweat, and heart into it.
I just need to say:

Just do me a favor, don’t listen to the haters. Feel better inspired by what I’m about to share about the month I hit my first $1,000, how long it took and the income realities of Michelle Teheux and Ossiana Tepfenhart as of January 2024.
Spoiler alert! It was Michelle’s best month ever, and Ossiana can do better, but her best months will blow your mind.
I started my writing journey at the end of December 2020 with 147 views and 17 cents.
In 2021, I got around 30,000 views and my earnings increased to more than $500.
Holy cow!
This was a bumpy ride with all ups and downs

Then, in October 2022, I could proudly share that I jumped from $500 to $1,000 for the very first time.

Growing my part-time monthly Medium income to over 1,000 per month was hard and took me over one and a half years because I made a lot of mistakes.
Here are my top three mistakes.
- #1 — I spent way too long creating and editing articles before publishing them.

Medium’s pros include…

- the large built-in audience

Because of this payment structure, there is no question that writers can make money writing on Medium.
Medium will soon reach 1 million paying subscribers.
So there is a lot of money in the pot for writers.
Let’s assume most people take the $ 5-a-month option and come and go.
$5x12 is 60; 60x 1 million, that’s 60 million.
Freaking bonkers!
Medium doesn’t share that much data regarding paid members and writer earnings anymore.
In the past, they used to publish a monthly report with a few baseline statistics, but they have discontinued that.
However, did you know 94% of writers fail to earn even $100 a month on Medium?
Why?
Most writers are churning out content without any proper strategy or using AI.
Did you know more than 90% of writers call it quits after one year of writing?
Ok, I made this number up, but that’s what I get from observing the platform and the people writing there.
Why?
- They hate slow growth.
- They want the easy fast buck.
- They listen to the haters.
Of course, if newish writers listen to Medium’s CEO, they also often feel frustrated.
Repeatedly, Stubblebine stated that Medium isn’t the place anymore to earn a full-time income.
However, on Medium, people from around the world are writing. So I think it depends on where you live.
In addition, more than 40 percent of Americans have a side hustle to…
- pay off debts faster
- diversify their income
- protect their finances.
Plus, some Medium writers want to earn a full-time income and also have to earn it to make ends meet.
