Here’s How YOU Gain Followers on Medium

You scratch my back; I’ll scratch your back

When I joined Medium, I thought it was a great place to write articles and air my thoughts to the world. Then I was told that one can make money writing articles, but the unfortunate thing is that you need at least 100 followers and also publish at least one article to do that.

Publishing one article is easy. Getting 100 people to follow you is tough. Of course, you have to go out there and make yourself known to everyone to get followers by interacting with others in the medium community. However, even though you follow people or even comment or clap on an article, people don’t bother doing the same. Another thing, you can give up to, 50 claps. Yes, 50 CLAPS!!!! So, please up those CLAPS!!!

I thought of writing an article asking for followers, but I didn’t want to appear desperate. Now I see many people or rookies like me writing articles asking people to either reply, applaud or follow them. That is why I though I’d do the same. Maybe, it will jolt more people to follow others and not just pass by after reading an article.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that, you write a comment of support on someone’s article and you probably get a clap or a reply back, but hardly ever a follow. I mean come on; the follow button is right there. You can just move the mouse a wee bit and follow the person who has taken the trouble to reply to your article. We are all in this together. Your followers help you make money and build your base, so you should do the same. As the British say, ‘You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.’

It is true everyone has an ulterior motive by following everyone on medium, but that is how the system works here. Nobody would be on medium if the system didn’t roll that way.

So, in conclusion, after you read an article, make sure you follow someone or clap to show support or even reply. And for those who have been followed or received a clap or a comment of support, take the time to acknowledge those kind gestures and go the extra mile by following that person too. As the saying goes, one good turn deserves another.
