Summary

Mama Ki, the editor of a memoir publication, announces a new writing prompt for February, emphasizing the importance of writing for the love of writing without a contest this month, and reflects on the overwhelming response to the January competition.

Abstract

The website content introduces a new memoir writing prompt for the month of February, inviting writers to share stories that happened during that month, without the incentive of a competition as seen in January. Mama Ki acknowledges the delay in judging the January contest due to personal workload challenges but assures the community of her commitment to thoroughly read and support all entries. The February prompt is intentionally open-ended, encouraging a diverse range of submissions centered around the month of February. Additionally, Mama Ki invites the writing community to engage in a "Getting to Know You" post at the sister publication QuickTalk for some off-topic fun and connection.

Opinions

  • The decision not to hold a contest for February is presented with a playful admonishment, suggesting a close and familiar relationship with the audience.
  • Mama Ki is considering future contests with potentially larger prizes or more awards, showing a commitment to incentivizing and rewarding contributors.
  • The open nature of the February writing prompt reflects a desire to encourage creativity without restrictive themes, particularly avoiding the cliché of Valentine's Day topics.
  • Mama Ki's enthusiasm for the upcoming submissions and the success of the previous month's competition indicates a positive and supportive attitude towards the writing community she leads.
  • The inclusion of a referral link to join Medium suggests an effort to expand the community and support the platform's writers financially.

New Memoir Prompt: It Happened In February….

Love, Hate, and None (or All) of the Above. As Long As It Happened In February.

Made by author

Hello, hello my little cult family! Gather round. Mama Ki has a few things to say.

The January “Starting Over” Competition

Guys. Holy macaroni. I’ve not counted the entries as of today, but I can safely say we are staring at least 50 entries down the throat. Y’all DID want to get your grubby hands on my wallet, didn’t you!?

So — here’s the deal. I want to — as well as my amazing team of editors — make sure I read each story thoroughly. And cats and kittens, Mama has been having a hell month at her day job, which means — yeah, excuses, excuses — but the reality is it’s a legit excuse and I am way the heck behind in my Medium reading. Even on my own publication, which is pretty dang shitty, and all I can say is I’m sorry guys! I want you to know I support each and every one of you and I WILL get to all of your stories.

Reading through all of these entries may take me (and the others) longer than anticipated. I can’t promise an announcement date at this point. When we get closer, I will let you know.

A New Prompt for February

As today is the last day for January’s prompt, I’m excited to announce February’s prompt. I’m guessing every last publication is going to be doing Valentines’s Day, romance, love, etc. So I’m making our prompt way vaguer. So I announce:

It Happened In February.

I don’t care what it was. Just as long as the time frame centers around February.

Mama Ki, Show Me The Money?!

Don’t be big babies! This month will not be a contest month. You gotta give us a little breathing room! :-) This month is a write for the love of writing month. The January contest had an awesome response and I’d love to have another one in a month or two. Maybe with a bigger prize pot or more prizes. I need to give some thought to the structure.

No special tags necessary if you opt to take part in the February prompt.

A Little Off-Topic….

Over at our sister publication QuickTalk, I have a “Getting to Know You” post where we are having great fun posting answers to questions about ourselves. If you want to learn more about some of our community and join in on the fun, check it out!

I’m looking forward to all your submissions in the coming month and for the hours and hours and hours and hours of reading ahead of me!! So glad this month’s competition was such a major success! I love my Memoirist cult!
