THE SHORTFORM

New Changes to Submission Guidelines

This will make most of you VERY happy!

Created in Canva by Nancy Blackman, MASF

After considering how Medium describes shortform content, we have decided to change the submission guidelines.

The 150-word count will include ONLY the body copy.

Yes, that gives you a bit more words to write. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

The other thing that is changing concerns embed links: you are still allowed 2 embed links. They no longer have to be only at the end of your story. If it seems more appropriate to add it within your copy, then so be it. Here’s the caveat: if an editor feels it is best suited at the end of your story, they will let you know.

To be clear

What is counted: only the words in your body copy. No longer will the kicker, headline, or subtitle be counted in the 150 words.

Please understand that anything in the body copy area, including your call to actions will be counted in the 150 word count.

Things that remain the same

The words of image captions and embed links WILL NOT be counted in the 150 words.

All Shortform articles must have a properly credited image. If an editor questions your image caption, please understand that we have copyright laws to adhere to, and Medium has policies around this.

Please write in plain English. This is a publication dedicated to entertaining your reader that won’t have much time to read. So, have fun!

Make sure your article is free of spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors. You can use Grammarly’s free service.

As always, a BIG thanks to the editors: Christina Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles Jonathan Townend, RMN and Judy Walker!

Now, go do some writing! Have fun, and enjoy the community.
