AUTUMN EQUINOX | WORLD GRATITUDE DAY
Never. Stop. Feeling. Grateful.
Happy equinox and World Gratitude Day
Happy equinox, friends 🌞
And, perhaps more importantly, happy World Gratitude Day!
My sweet Medium friend, Vidya Sury, who is known for collecting smiles wherever she goes, created a “just for fun” post, especially to mark this important day.
She is someone who walks her talk when it comes to always putting her best foot forward, and she does this through always remaining in a state of gratitude, no matter what.
In all fairness, behind the scenes she is hilarious and rude, and swears a lot. But I think this is part and parcel of remaining in gratitude — being able to laugh at the shit that happens and then be grateful anyway.
(Sorry for giving away that secret, V)
Anyway, her “just for fun” post was an A-Z of everything she is grateful for, which she then challenged some others to have a go at. I have kind of added in an additional layer to this challenge, which is to pretty much write the first thing that comes into my head.
And so I give you my very own A-Z of things I am grateful for…
Aardvarks — I have never seen one but I like the word, so I am grateful.
Bossiness — where would I be without it?
Creativity — where would any of us be without it?
Darkness — because the equinox is the perfect balance of light and dark.
Elephants — they are cute! Those enormous flappy ears and those sweet eyes. I love elephants and the world wouldn’t be the same without them.
Faeries — because believing in them is so much more fun than not.
Gargoyles — Oxford is the place where I have the fondest memories of pub crawls through the city. The gargoyles always watched us wander from pub to pub.
Hills — flat countryside is boring.
Ice cream — does this need explaining?
Juggling — because it’s fun and you get to show off.
KiKi Walter — yes, I’m super grateful for you, Ki.
Lilies — one of my favourite flowers in the world.
Music — say no more.
Medium — is that another M? Well, tough!
No — it’s a really useful word and I thank my lucky stars everyday that it exists.
Olives — I just bought some jalapeno and garlic ones. They’re delicious.
Princess Ginger — my dog. She’s not officially a member of the royal family but she behaves like a princess, so a princess she is.
Queen Elizabeth II — she was a pretty cool human.
Relaxation — it’s not something I get in abundance and so I am especially grateful for the time I do get.
Sons — my son. Yes, I am grateful for his smart-ass ways, his cheeky smile, and his loving cuddles.
Teenagers — particularly my daughters and my niece and nephew.
Undressing — it’s a nice thing to do at the end of a busy and productive day. What? What did I say?
Vitality — I am grateful when I am feeling full of it.
Windows — the ones that let the light in, I mean. Because we need light to balance out the darkness.
X X X — texted kisses. I love them!
Zigzagging — it’s so much more fun than going in straight lines.
I hope you enjoyed my A-Z of things I am grateful for on this World Gratitude Day. Okay, it was verging on totally random and nonsensical but, since I am extremely grateful for random nonsense, we’ll let that pass.
Fun fact: did you know that the opposite side of the year — the Spring Equinox (in the northern hemisphere) — is World Happiness Day? That’s pretty cool, huh?
Here’s Vidya’s original post:
Who can I challenge to write their own? Mike Butler, Sofia Chen, Deb Groves Harman, Joy DeSomber, Shirley Laffa, Timpoa, Tamil, Bernie Pullen, Klara Jane Holloway, Belcairn?
