Never Really Gone
On April 8 and 9, our hospital held a memorial service to honor all of those who died from COVID-19. For each patient, we had a candle and a card with their name on it, handwritten by one of my colleagues. It was a wonderful we can honor those who we have lost. I wrote this poem as my contribution to this effort.
The Light comes down from On High Descending calmly like a dove With each breath and sigh A sign of Undying Love
Affliction strikes from afar Oceans do not keep it out Disease is wide and far Fear is around and about
And light after light goes dark With loved ones left to grieve The devastation is raw and stark And the pain has no reprieve
But their light is never really gone Their light is never really gone
In our hearts their light shines on And each memory brings soul relief And like the light we see at dawn It helps us ease our grief
For their light is never really gone Their light is never really gone
The days move forth with pain Nothing makes it truly go away But as every spring brings rain Their light will banish the gray
For their light is never really gone Their light is never really gone
So let their light shine bright And bring peace and love to all For even in the darkest of night Their light continues to call
For their light is never really gone Their light is never really gone
