About having a clear goal and staying motivated

I saw this image as “the first online thing in the morning” today: the image of a “small” excavator attempts to free the front end of the “giant” Ever Given.

The Ever Given is a container ship almost as long as the Empire State Building is tall, which ran aground in the Egyptian canal after being caught in 40-knot winds and a sandstorm that caused low visibility and poor navigation.

The local authorities claim that they will need to remove 15,000 to 20,000 cubic meters (530,000 to 706,000 cubic feet) of sand from the bow to achieve a 12 to 16-meter (39 to 52-foot) depth to allow the ship to float.

This picture gave me the dimension of the task, and of course, many thoughts come to my mind... but one in particular:

We are all part of something bigger; we are all part of a bigger picture in our tasks, projects, and roles.. and it is all about us doing our part!

Even when it looks impossible or so much bigger than us!

Set goals, stay motivated

In an increasingly competitive world with increasingly demanding organizational policies, achieving any results is dependent on how we define and execute our plans.

Goals can boost our motivation if we are engaged and if we have the necessary orientation from our leaders, toward a logical destination.

Unattainable goals, on the other hand, discourage and undermine those who define them by pointing out an objective that is not attainable with the available resources.

Setting goals, allowing for suggestions, and paying attention to needs all contribute to the project’s success and achievement of results.

That guy on that excavator clearly has a goal and he is doing his part to accomplish his mission.
