The narrative begins

Never far behind

People previously concerned Found my story unreliable So I resolved to help myself Knowing the thing is undeniable.

I don’t need consensus I know what I am seeing I know the difference well enough Between things and human beings.

It was not a person but a thing That dripped like oil from my ceiling It landed right besides my bed Where it remained grinning and kneeling.

Initially I closed my eyes I played at being dead I heard it laugh at my attempt Then it sat upon my bed.

It did not say a word But ran cold fingers through my hair At first I shuddered then I screamed And then it disappeared.

I could not eat my supper The next day’s moon began to rise I took my coat out to the car The bedroom seemed unwise.

It was standing in my bedroom Staring down down at me I could not go back into the house I pressed the clutch and turned the key.

I see it in my rear view mirror Never far behind I must lose the thing that follows me Before I lose my mind.
